I live next door to a terrier mix dog who never stops barking. It is left alone outside most of the day. The dog barks even at nigh time so much I have to turn up the volume on TV set. I have spoken to neighbor about their dog sometimes it does good and sometimes not. I have a ultrasonic device placed outside and it works for awhile. I bought a can that shakes making a noise so I hope it works. I can not go outside in my patio with out earplugs. At least when my cat howls I go SHHHHH he listens. Anyone have any good ideas,

No advice, funny story though. Years ago I lived in a subdivision in an unincorporated part of the city. Meaning big things like crime and fires we had protection, dog barking all hours of the night, not so much. The dog that barked, lived behind me. I did feel sorry for the dog, because he was ignored. Anyway after awhile I learned to ignore the barking and go to sleep. This went on for a good 5 years, every single night between about 10pm-3am. Neighbors complaining all the time didn't help.  I am surprised no one did something to the dog, that was always my worry. When I saw the For Sale sign go up on the house I was so happy. After they moved out, I started having problems going to sleep. Here I thought I would sleep better and I got so used to having the dog bark during the time I was going to sleep, I couldn't go to sleep without it. Weird thing is, when we went on vacation I could sleep fine without it, just not at home. My husband thought it was funny and was going to get me a noise machine with a barking dog. I grew up near train tracks and twice a night a big freight train would go by. It never bothered me because that is all I knew. When I got my own place it wasn't near any tracks and I actually missed it. For me trains chugging by were calming. So maybe the barking dog had the same effect, who knows.

I can sure relate to the train. I lived across the street from a train track and only about 3 blocks from an Army base. Every night at 9 pm, I hears Taps being played at the Army base and at 9:30 a freight train come by. The whole house shook. I learned to go to sleep to the "rock and roll" of that train. Now, when I get on a plane and they begin vibrating at the end of the runway getting ready for takeoff, I go to sleep.

When I was in college, the dorms were across the street from the Emergency Room.  So there were often ambulance sirens.   I remember being on the phone, and the person on the other line asked if I needed to evacuate the building.  I was so used to the ambulance sirens, they didn't even register.

I'm having some problems with Echo barking sometimes, and I'm trying the 'Thank you.' on the first try, and get in front of the dog so they see I'm not alarmed at whatever they are barking at.  I don't know what you do with neighbors' dogs.
