We were walking through the neighbourhood park towards the garbage can to make a deposit and a man and a black mixed breed 50ish lb. dog sort of emerged from the tree shadow all friendly and saying "hello." Well the dog was off leash and made a b-line towards Gavin (who was on leash) and attacked his face and neck. Gavin cried like I have never heard and tried to hide behind me. I made myself big and backed that (female dog) off until the loser, I mean owner could grab her. I dared not drop Gavin's leash because the small park is not fenced and bordered by busy roads on three sides. Gavin cried and cried. Loser: "I don't know why she did that. She never does that. We sent her away to be trained for doing that." I just put on my happy face and kept going with Gavin acting as cheerful as I could. After we got a block away I examined him for any damage. He looked ok. Then I cried and cried lol. I stopped a couple of times to visit people on the street before going home to try and keep thing positive. I kept thinking if that loser and his dog traumatized my sweet Gavin I can't be held responsible for what I do.

OMG! Poor Gavin.  He is one of dk's babies and, as such, we all want to protect him. I think if there is anyone to report the incident to, I would. It is building a history. Next, I would stalk the park without Gavin and try to find the guy, his name and description - how about taking a camera and getting a picture - especially if the dog is off-leash!  Even if nothing happens from it, you will feel like you protected Gavin and tried to protect the next dog who might get attacked. If anything at all results from you turning him in, well and good!  Wish I lived near you and could join a park search and a stealth camera attack.

Ned has been rolled at dog parks a couple of times by dogs with a strong prey drive; he hasn't ever been hurt, but his sissy-foo-foo cry breaks my heart. Clancy has been put down by a couple of dogs - once it was a pit - and after giving the owner a piece of our mind (which fell on deaf ears) we left.

My little 3 year old grandson was just looking at your 3 dogs. He said aren't those doggies cute? I said yes they are. He said well then can you get one? I said I already have one. But now he is obsessed with your 3.

Amy, we're all obsessed with Nancy's three dogs! LOL

Truth!

Aw, tell him they are Annabelle's California friends and that they all send kisses to him because they love little boys.

If anyone could stalk and document this loser it would be you!  I know what you girls are capable of!!

Poor Gavin and you, I hope you can both recover from this soon with no lasting effects. I would still file a report with the police. Give a description of the owner and dog while everything is still fresh in your mind. Then if you see them again and the dog is off leash, call the police, file a 2nd complaint. Maybe there are other people out there who have had experience with this dog as well. Power in numbers if there are.

Poppa Bear is on it now.  He is a retired Officer.  He thinks he knows the loser by my description.  I pity the fool now.

Yes!!!!

Good to hear this. The owner needs to be held accountable for this. Maybe he will think twice before he lets his aggressive dog off leash again.

I'm so sorry, BG. I know exactly how you feel. When Jack was attacked and bitten by an unleashed dog, he let out the most mournful, heartbreaking cries. But he was not traumatized by the incident in the long term, and I'm sure Gavin won't be either. Hugs to you both.

That is good to know Karen.  I am sure he will be fine.
