Congrats on your new puppy!! I think that the only things that would be specific to doodles, is grooming supplies!

Here is a list of some things I have for Bella:

1. Slicker Brush

2. Double sided metal comb (a.k.a. Greyhound comb)

3. Ear cleaner

4. Scissors (preferably ball tip)*

5. Nail grinder**

6. Nail clippers (I use the guillotine kind)***

7. Good quality dog shampoo

8. Good quality dog conditioner

Optional- 9. dog "perfume". I only use it when people are coming and it's not time for a bath, but I still want to make her smell nice.

*Scissors are for the stray hairs that may get in front of the eyes

**, *** The groomer can do these if you prefer

A few other things that you may want to consider if you want to groom yourself:

10. Dog clippers (with guards, etc..)

I can't think of anything else right now, but if I forgot something please let me know!

I hope that helps!

Sam, that is a really good list! i dont have the ear cleaner.  My dog's swim instructor sells them and I noticed it had boric acid in it, which is an anhydrate.  Perhaps I should go get some.

Thanks! I have had the same bottle of ear cleaner  for a year and a half! You can make some yourself too if you have vinegar and water: 1\2 vinegar 1\2 water. i didn't think it was that easy until the breeder told me:)

I would definitely get an 49" crate if you have a standard goldendoodle. This is crucial if you plan on potty training with ease. I also recommend the Kong, Kong Wobbler (interactive toy...poodles are very smart and bores easily so get something stimulating), and Jolly balls for chewing, these guys can chew a lot.

Most but not all of these dogs are constant chewers. I really like the Zogoflex West Paw toys. They stood up to Annabelle's constant chewing. We had the entire collection. The chewing didn't really start until maybe 12 weeks old. Then it got progressively worse. When she was older I started giving her bully sticks, one every other day. She is 2 now and doesn't chew that often. Once in awhile I will catch her chewing on her frisbee.

I used a shower cap on Annabelle the first 7 months or so of giving her a bath so I wouldn't get water in her ears when I rinsed her off. She was so squirmy.

Lots of paper towels, Nature's Miracle for clean-ups.  Of course that is a reminder for any dog. :-}

Many doodles have sensitive tummies. Many doodles come from the breeder with Giardia.   Keep your pup on whatever food it comes with from the breeder for two weeks, then gradually transition to one of the foods recommended in our food group (we have a member or two who have researched dog food down to the sourcing).

Really appreciate all the good advice. Anticipation is high and want to complete some prep work as I await arrival of pup.
