Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello, I am looking to rescue a goldendoodle.  We have a 9 year old daughter and we had to put our other dog down a month ago.  Ideally we are looking for a young dog that will be a medium height.  I live in Los Angeles but I am willing to drive to Az, NV or anywhere in CA.  Thanks for all your help.

Have you looked on petfinder.com? https://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?location=90210&animal=dog&... There is a labradoodle close to you and a Goldendoodle in NV.  I've worked with our local Pug rescue, Australian Shepherd rescue, and Great Pyrenees rescue. A lot of the times, they are so busy with their work and can't take any more dogs in.  What you can do is to see if there are any poodle mixes at your local animal services. My best friend lives in Santa Monica and says there are a lot of doodles in LA.  When they are that popular there is probably a rescue situation in order.

Oh great, thank you so much

DoodleRescue.org and IDOGRescue.com are the websites of the two reputable doodle rescue organizations...they are nationawide with fosters in many states. However, I believe they both have a requirement for kids in the house to be a minimum of 10 years old.  In the meantime, yes check Petfinder for "poodle" and you'll likely get listings for doodles now and then.  Finally, you might check with breeders in your area in case they are retiring a female.

If you have a daughter, you are not eligible to rehome or rescue a goldendoodle through normal channels.  Both the DRC and IDOG will not place a dog with a family with children (and that is for good reason).  However, your local shelter or a breeder may be able to provide you with an over-aged pup or adult dog.  Your best bet is to contact local rescue groups and get your name in for a goldendoodle.  They do not become available often.

That's not true. I believe IDOG's age limit is 6, and DRC's is 10. However, when the youngest child is very close to 10, and has a proven track record of living successfully with dogs in the home, an exception might be made.

Good to know about the age min difference between the two organizations!

I'm not sure about IDOG's age requirement; I couldn't find any info on their website. But they do have two listings with a minimum age of 10, so it may be the same as DRC's.

Thank you very much, I will look into it

There is what looks like a standard f1 doodle in Riverside right now.  There is what looks like a parti-colored mini doodle in the private shelter in Ramona.

What website do you see that under?

Both listings are gone, I sure hope they were adopted.

The parti doodle was on Petfinder, the F1, who was a 9 mo old female, was on Pet Harbor.

You really have be proactive with searching every 2-3 days, as the younger, healthy ones do usually get adopted quickly. And when you see one, submit an application first and ask questions later.

OK thank you, I am trying to find the one you are talking about in Riverside but it is not coming up.
