Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all,

I need some help rehoming my golden doodle, Ivan. He is a 1 1/2 year old male that just loves to run and play. Unfortunately, we are not able to have a fenced yard, so have to keep him on a leash at all times. I want to find him a place where he can arrive at his full potential.

Ivan needs a home where he can run to his heart's content. He needs a family that is committed to continue his training.

He is a sweet, smart, and lovable dog. See haveyoumetivan.com for more info and https://thosemartins.smugmug.com/Ivan/ for a video and pictures.

He does have one issue that I fear will make people pass him by: he has a very strong initial fearful reaction to some dogs. He lunges and barks and scares the other dog. When introduced by smelling a material with the other dog's scent and the other dog smelling something of Ivan's, he is fine and bounces around and plays. He has never shown any biting behavior towards people or animals, just this "ruffling of his feathers".

We live near Madison, WI.

Christine ~ have you considered relinquishing to DRC - they make sure they get the best home.  I am so sorry you have had to make this decision, but sometimes circumstances just happen.  Best wishes to you,  I know there is a forever home out there for your doodle.

Hi Christine,

If Ivan came from a reputable breeder, there would be a clause in your purchase agreement stating that you must contact the breeder before rehoming him. Many breeders will take the dog back, or assist in rehoming, as they often have clients who are looking for an adult dog.

If that's not an option, please consider relinquishing him to Doodle Rescue. They are very careful about screening adopters and have a very high success rate. It gives the dog a safety net to prevent being passed from home to home, as the rescue will always take the dog back, and in fact insists on it in writing.

If your decision is made and the breeder won't or can't take him back, please relinquish him to DRC.  This will give Ivan the best chance.

Such a beautiful dog, it is so sad when anyone has to give up their beloved pet. I agree to call your breeder to see if they want him back. If they don't, contact the DRC. They will make sure he goes to the perfect home.

You should have no problems rehoming this beautiful dog.  The DRC option is always a consideration.  I have worked with them evaluating homes, fostering doodles, transporting, and placing dogs.  They definitely find good homes for pets like yours.  He can get over his fear of other dogs.  I currently have four house pet doodles.

Ivan is precious!!! I'm sure you've agonized over your decision to rehome him, and certainly Doodlekisses is a good place to start. If it were me, I would go through the Doodle Rescue Collective, so you can be sure that the new family can be properly vetted and he'll have a forever home! I looked at all the adorable pictures of him- someone will be very lucky to get your sweet boy!
He is beautiful! Good luck finding him a good home.

Thanks, everyone. I have agonized over the decision, but in the end, I just hate to see him bored and not able to run without a leash. I want him to be deliriously happy in this prime of his life, and for another family to be able to enjoy that happiness.

Hi, is he still available?
