I love your photos. We got Happy and Nibbler for our first dog Sahara, who was the most beautiful dog I've ever seen! She was the most loyal dog and had a really great sense of humor. Her face was most expressive. We rescued her and these people told us she was a golden retriever LOL. She looks more like a Great Pyrenees but only weighs 65 lbs instead of 80+ and no double dew claws. Then we had someone say she was an English Golden Retriever but is much taller and Pyrenees hair. Finally, the Pyrenees Rescue President told me she was a Maremma Sheepdog. This breed is extremely hard to find and the Maremma Sheepdog Club of America does not want them belonging to the AKC for them to get overbred like the Pyrenees. I had really originally wanted another Maremma.
OMD! I saw one this summer on our trip to the Walla Walla romp. We took a drive looking for covered bridges in Southern Oregon and saw the most beautiful dog guarding a herd of llama. I have been trying to connect it to a specific breed since then.
Thank you!
Guess we are all just animal lovers in general! We currently have 6 dogs and 1 cat. All of our "babies" were becoming senior citizens so we decided 3 years ago to change the statistics a bit. We had 4 dachshunds, but recently lost one to advanced inoperable bladder cancer. When we rescued her, she had 2 babies - and we kept all 3 of them. Those "babies" just turned 12 years old. We also have one old man that is getting close to 16 years old (birthday early November). When my mother had to move to a nursing home, we kept her shih-tzu who is about 15 years old. Then there are our 3 years old doodle brothers. And least we forget Rudy - he who rules the roost!!! --- our cat. We have had him for 15 years and the vet thought that he was probably 2 or 3 when we rescued him. Interesting - the only critters that were not rescues were the doods. My husband saw a labradoodle on one of his trips and fells in love with it. We had recently lost our 12 year old golden retriever and 14 year of dachshund - both to renal failure -- thanks to Purina dog food. Thankfully, I now know better and do not allow Purina products in the house. Anyway - we loved the golden personality and wanted one that either didn't shed at all or shed very little. We lucked out and got two that don's shed at all.
Wow! Joyce, you have lots of pets to love! I think you were smart to get your doodle boys to lower your average doggy age.
