Bad breath!

Today when I got home I noticed an awful smell in our room (where yetis kennel is). Upon further investigation I realized it was his blankie. He must have been chewing on it while we were gone and boy does it stink! (Kind of musty). Then he licked my arm a little while later and the same nasty smell appeared on my arm. Is there anything I can get him for his icky breath? I'm not sure what caused it. I haven't noticed it before but boy does it smell bad tonight haha.

3 solutions:

1. He needs a vet visit and he perhaps needs a dental cleaning  (unless he is a very young puppy). My Pomeranian is genetically predisposed to dental issues and has periodontal disease. This started when he was around 1 years old. He goes to the dentist every year. I'm thinking about trying non-anesthetic dental cleaning for maintenance. 

2. Everyone can have stinky breath but good teeth.  In this case, you can brush his teeth with enzyme toothpaste.  Kill two birds with one stone: that should help both his teeth and his breath.  Also, they used to sell doggie breath mints. I bought one

I like Virbac VeggieDents. I give each of the doodles one every other day.  They recommend one a day, but I have had success with keeping placque away with one every other day.  I also brush there teeth.

How often do you brush? Every day? Where do you get toothpaste?

2-3x a week should suffice, and you can buy toothpaste at any pet supply store.

My Meg has a healthy mouth and teeth but awful breath ever since we got her.  We use Tropiclean, found the best prices on Amazon.  It is a liquid that we put in her water every day and it helps a lot.

With Sawyer, we've found that certain flavor of his food cause stinky breath. Any flavor that has salmon or fish in it, makes his breath awful! I love the Zignature line, but I won't buy any with fish in it!

If the saliva itself stinks bad, I'd be concerned that there might be a bacterial infection going on. It wouldn't hurt to get Yeti checked for maybe a broken tooth, abcess, etc.

Try Oravet (can get at vet office for about $1 a treat). It was recommended by my vet and Willa's breath was so bad I felt it was worth a try despite the price. To my surprise and joy, it works! It helps with the bad bacteria that causes the bad breath. She loves them and so do we!

Joann, it's not recommended to give more than one per day, and I would absolutely NOT give them to a brand new puppy. The website says only for dogs over 6 months old.

I would try just brushing his teeth. I've tried to find an ingredient list for these chews and came up empty; even the website doesn't list them. For a dog with a sensitive stomach, I'd want to know exactly what's in them.
