Over the last couple of days, Ludo has made this strange-ish noise a few times. I don't even really know how to describe it :P It's sporadic, but alarming when he does it. I don't want to panic and run to the vet because he is otherwise perfectly normal-- energetic, has an appetite, etc and it doesn't seem to be bothering him at all.
I haven't been able to get Ludo, himself, on camera doing it, but I found this youtube video where a dog is making the same noise at the beginning and the end of the video. To me, it sounds like it could be him clearing his nasal passage. Also, it's gotten really cold over the last couple of days, so maybe it is just the colder, dryer air?
I don't think it sounds like a reverse sneeze and I don't think it sounds wheezy.
Video to what Ludo's nose noise sounds like
I appreciate any thoughts on this and I apologize if this is something that has been discussed, but I didn't know what to call it and searching for "nose noise" didn't turn up many results :)

My last Poodle used to do this occasionally. It never led to anything, she was perfectly healthy, and she lived to be 16 years old. I am one of those people who does run to the vet for everything, but not for this, lol. As long as he seems fine otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it unless he starts acting sick, or it happens a LOT. I do think this is what some people call "reverse sneezing", but I'm not sure.
I also seem to be someone who runs to the vet for everything. I'm glad that it never led to anything with your last dog! I will definitely be keeping an eye on him and will take him to the vet if it becomes more frequent or anything else changes. Thank you, as always!!
Interesting about a possible connection to allergies. As far as I know, Ludo doesn't have any issues with allergies, but I definitely will not rule it out! Thanks so much!!
Our doodle does this occasionally (it's worse during allergy seasons). Our vet said that it's nothing and also thinks it's allergy related. In any case, it still freaks me out when our pup does it, but it doesn't seem to have any ill-effects.
Hi,
I'm not a run to the vet kind of owner, either, but... turns out Casey has a partially paralyzed larnyx, partially paralyzed esophageal muscles and slowly progressing paralysis of other muscles in her trachea. I would *not* let anything breathing related continue without getting it checked out, even if it seems as if it might be nothing.
My dogs occasionally do this. I always feel like something is stuck in the nose. We have fox tails here in California that can be sniffed into the nose, so that is what I worry about when I hear a sound like this from them. So far the occasional noise has gone away.
