We ordered a new couch in a beautiful coffee colored leather and it finally came yesterday.  We decided with the upgrade that we would also get rid of the chair we gave our two dogs ownership of because it was time, it really was worn down.  We replaced that with a lovely leather hassock that spanned the window they love to lay and look out of.  We brought that home the day of the purchase.  My two girls have always been allowed up on the couch to cuddle with us...but, it came at a cost and the leather of the old couch showed scuff marks because of it.  So here is what happens with new furniture.

The hassock looks very good in front of the window but the girls have no arm rest to lay their head on, and for some reason my doodles HAVE to have that pillow.  So, they put their front legs on to lean across and watch outside but never really lay on it for naps.  Who knew they could be so picky?

As for the new couch, I have been telling my husband that I think it is time to break the girls of coming up on it with us.  They have dog beds in three areas and tons of floor area, heck they even go to the floor after they get too warm from cuddling. My husband sees it as unfair to them since they have always been allowed up.

So the new one is in the house, the girls spend the afternoon looking at it, sniffing at it, but never offering to get up on it.  After dinner we go in to settle down in the evening and Meg comes over and places her head on the couch indicating that she would like to be invited up and I suggest to her that she go lay down.  My husband, using his "poor baby" voice comments, to the dog, that it just doesn't seem fair. Long story short, within an hour both dogs are piled between and on us and are suddenly happy campers.

Turns out that new furniture or not, we just love having our hands on those two girls and miss them when they are nut curled up beside us with our leg as their pillow.

Oh, and the hassock?  It is now upstairs in the guest room and the chair that was there is down by the window for the girls.

Meg was staring at me last night and I swear I heard her whisper, "I OWN YOU!"

Ha! She does indeed own you! My dog went from almost no furniture privileges to almost no furniture restrictions--I am not surprised that it didn't work out to go in the other direction. It was all part of the doodle master plan!

Glad the girls won the furniture battle, lol. And your DH sounds like a great doodle dad. :)

Funny. i hve been looking t my furniture which gets shabbier by the day and think of getting some new pieces. But then I say what is the point. This is a dog house after all.

So funny that your chair ended up back by their viewing window.

We have a coffee table that is decades old.  It was my husband's before we were married.  Alma loves to lie on it.  We just can't seem to get rid of it even though it's very outdated and doesn't go with our other furniture. Oh well, it's her spot and we love her.

That is so funny, my living room furniture no longer matches because of bringing the bedroom chair down, but as mentioned above it is a dog house after all.  We don't get a lot of company and the ones that come to our house already know about the dogs. Bad move on my part to get a coffee colored leather couch with two blond dogs and Meg is a world class shedder, don't know what I was thinking.

Oh my doodle! We had nearly the same one. My hubby had it left over from his bachelor days. The lower level had some kind of wicker or cane finish. It took me a while but I got it delegated to the basement along with the matching end tables. Step two it went to goodwill. The end tables remain in the basement :)

LOL  This table does indeed have a bottom, wicker weave finish.  The top is some kind of fake parquet that I try to hide with magazines.  We had the matching end tables along with the couch and the love seat!!!  (Long gone now.)  The false gold trim around the edges tied it all together.  My husband bought the set in his bachelor days too. (Not sure what he was thinking.)  So funny that you recognize the table!  We cannot bring ourselves to get rid of it since it is where Alma relaxes when we are in the family room, preferring it to her dog bed.  We think it is her den.

This discussion has reminded me of an old one that may have been the funniest discussion ever on the topic of doodles, couches and furniture. Enjoy!

With Sadness We Report the Loss of Couch

That is funny, things never change when there are animals involved.  We also feel like we single handed keeping the Roomba people and those that make the tape rollers to remove pet hair in business.  Not to mention the dog toy and treat people.  My kids and grandkids want to know why they were not loved this much and why they never got away with what these two dogs do.

And here I thought I read every post that was ever posted while Ava was recovering! That's great.

This is so funny. They own you indeed. Know however that you are not alone.

Sounds like most of us.  Doodles Rule! :-}  Giggle.
