Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have a 2 1/2 year old goldendoodle. She's in heat if that makes a difference here. We just got an 8 week old puppy, also female. My GD growls when puppy tries to play. She'll also growl if she's drinking and the puppy tries to join in.

I've been scolding her for growling but maybe I shouldn't? I'm keeping them apart mostly.

Does this sound like they'll have problems? Is it possible the older girl will get over her feelings? Could it be the heat cycle making her irritable?

Would appreciate advice and opinions! Thanks.

Well, I thought I'd answer my own post for future reference....

My older girl is almost completely tolerant now...  and starting to try to play with the puppy but I have to watch that because the big girl is 55 pounds and the baby is 6 pounds!  Puppy (no name yet!) can walk all around the GD without any growls 90% of the time.  It's been about a week.  I feel like they'll do okay!

And just to be clear, I'm a guardian home for the 2yo goldendoodle. She's always been sweet-natured and I think it's because she'd been at the breeder's home and all the associated hormone changes. She and puppy are doing great now. :)
I worry too much about their mental state.

Glad that things are fine now.  I appreciate the update.

Charlie was almost two when we got a second doodle.  Charlie being very spoiled did not want the new puppy to have any toys.  They are 6 and 4 now - and are a brotherhood.  If one is missing, the other is looking for him! Regarding the water bowl, I made two feeding stations and each had their own water bowl and own food bowl.  I do not think the older dog should have to share food.  The growling is just telling the younger pup to back off.  It is all life lessons.  As long as they are not fighting, I would ignore. Good luck.
