Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello,
I'm new to this site and I love that there are so many owners that think that their doodles are as cool as I do! I have a four year old goldendoodle, Bella who started off as a dark chocolate pup and had since blossomed into a lovely Cafe au lait color. I love how much her coat has changed and I am curious if I should expect color changes from my new black labradoodle puppy, Gigi. Are there any owners of black doodles out there that have have seen color changes in their pets coat? When I picked up Gigi at 8 weeks her fur was flat and completely black, but now at 12 weeks she has fluffed up beautifully and has a nice thick undercoat of silver popping through! I'm just curious if any black labradoodle owners have experienced this in their pet and can let me know what to expect when my puppy if fully mature.

Thanks,
Sarah (Bella, and Gigi)

My boy was born jet black and started silvering out at about 7 weeks. He is almost 2.5 years now. Also, his skin has a bluish tint to it.

This is what he looked like when I first brought him home at 8 weeks.

This is what he looks like now.

I just noticed you're from Vancouver, too! If you ever need a play date, Orwell and I are available. We live in Felida.

What a handome boy! Gigi is only 12 weeks now and I can't wait to start introducing her to dogs once she has all of her shots! I think my big girl Bella and Gigi will enjoy a romp with Orwell as soon as she is big enough! Gigi has silver growing along her back but nothing in her face yet, so I wonder if she will silver out as much as Orwell? Goldendoodle Bella was a dark brown and she lighten up at about 4-5 months, so I guess its just a waiting game.
That last picture is a bit hard to see but it's Gigi's coat with the silver underneath

That is interesting because Orwell's silver started in his face and in his paws. It will be fun to watch Gigi grow up.

I'm going to send you a friend request and you can let me know whenever you want to go for a romp. My boy is pretty big, so hopefully Gigi won't be very scared. I remember when Orwell met his first big dog and he peed his pants, lol. Orwell has always been super friendly, though.

Hi Sarah - Our first doodle was a chocolate doodle.  He was a glorious chocolate with read highlights when a puppy, and had blonde wisps through his wonderful tail (foxy like)!  By the time he was 2 he was quite a bit lighter. He is six now, and has not changed that much in the last couple of years.

How handsome is he! Our Bella girl was a much lighter chocolate color as a pup and is almost silver now!

I love all the chocolates!  I find them a little harder to take photos of - at least more so than our parti doodle Beau who is chocolate & cream!

Kona was jet black as a pup. He's "pewter" (just my description) now. He didn't finish all of the fading until he was almost three. Kona's skin is bluish too.
