How do you keep them on?! We got yeti a pair of medium muttluks and he looks so so so cute in them. Our problem is, he can't keep them on. We set out on a walk a couple of days ago and only got 2 houses down before one fell off. He doesn't try to take them off, they just fall off haha. We tried tightening them as much as possible with still no luck! Is there a trick I'm missing?!

The place where I got my Ruffwear boots from (www.gear4dogs.ca) will allow you to buy two pairs if your dog has smaller back feet. It is a little more expensive than buying a set of four, but well worth it to get boots that fit correctly. They are in Canada, so I don't know if any American companies offer the same options.

Question from a no-snow person.   If your dogs only visited the snow, would you use boots?  My ds has rented a cabin for next week and are taking their poodle puppy.  Does she need boots?  We might go up for a day.  Do my boys need boots?

We live in BC Canada and usually have a lot of snow and we have never used boots for our dogs.  We are very active outdoors people and Myla goes snowshoeing at least once a week for a very long trek with DH (usually three to four hours).  The funny thing is that when we go snowshoeing in popular areas, we always see dog boots hanging on branches that people have found and hung up for owners to find.  If it's very wet snow, Myla will stop periodically to bite out the clumps between her pads but only if we have stopped first.  We have found that if the snow is clumping it is worse on her underbelly fur than her paws and then we will turn around and head back instead of trekking through virgin snow.  We took our very small grand dog snowshoeing with us and he very quickly figured out to go behind us and follow our tracks but Myla likes being in the lead unless it's very deep and then she'll follow DH but not both of us and she's always looking around him as if to pass.  It's funny.

Thank you, Wendy.  They are hoping for snow but, may not even have any.  They wanted to be prepared.

I hope they have snow if the puppy hasn't seen it before - it would be a very funny video!!!  I still smile when I think of Myla's first snowfall :)

You're lucky!  Once the snow clogs up in Picco's feet, it drives him nuts which drives me nuts for having to constantly stop!  Luckily we seldom lose them.

Picco gets clumps of snow in his feet and stops constantly to bite it out so he needs them. If you walk on a road/sidewalk that has salt/sand it helps too.

We don't even use Jack's boots for snow.

Boots may be good to help keep snow off paws, but we bought infant socks that worked just as well!! We wanted boots for walks when the salt and such were all over sidewalks. I'm not sure if all street salt is dog safe. I think you would be just fine without boots! We usually blow dry his paws and underbelly when it's wet with snowballs. Also it depends on the snow! It got warm and then cold again here in WI so the snow is pretty frozen. The past couple of days snow hasn't been sticking to his fur at all!
