Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi All, I don't post very often but I check in frequently and am always encouraged and entertained by the discussions here. Sophie and I are missing our most recent foster. Sugar was a 9 month old small lab/boxer mix. One of THE sweetest most lovable pups ever. She was with us for a few months and probably would have been a "failed foster" had we not found her a fantastic forever home locally. Just a perfect fit and I can keep up with her since she's not too far away. She and Sophie played so well together and she was easy to train and just so darn affectionate without being demanding. She left the Monday before Christmas and we've been a little low through the holidays. And to top it off the day we made the move, the adopter's other dog, a large German Shepard, knocked me into a fence and broke my right wrist. I had to have surgery the next day. It was a crazy accident. So all in all a tough couple weeks. Overall though, a happy story with a little pain along the way. That's kind of the way it is with fostering. I love it but it is often heart wrenching. Thanks for listening. <3

Wow, I know fostering can be painful, but usually not literally, lol.

I'm so sorry you got hurt and that you and Sophie are missing Sugar. But so grateful and glad that thanks to your generous heart, Sugar has a happy ever after. Hugs to you & your girl.

So sad to hear about your missing Sugar and your wrist. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Hope you are better soon! What a great thing you did to foster a dog in need.

I guess I never thought about it but it must be hard being a foster parent but you must have the right attitude going into it, but still you get attached.  Do they live close by? Will you have the chance to see Sugar again?

Oh I'm sorry about your wrist and I understand how you and Sophie must be missing Sugar.  I hope you can take comfort in knowing that you did a wonderful thing for her.

Sorry to hear about your wrist.  Hope you can take some happiness in the fact that your love and kindness won't be forgotten by Sugar.   Hugs.

Thanks everyone! i would encourage anyone who has the time and a lot of patience to try fostering. We've had a few now and they all have their own challenges but each one has a special gift to share also. I miss all of them but some do wiggle a little deeper in your heart. Sugar (now "Lola") is nearby. I was so thrilled with the serendipity of the whole placement. The gal who cuts my hair is a huge animal lover. So every time I was in the salon we chatted continuously about dogs and how we do things for our pets that we used to laugh about other people doing. The last time I went I mentioned that we had another foster. She said they had been thinking of getting a second dog . . . The rest is history as they say. She has two older children and has sent pictures of them cuddling and playing together. Her shepherd and Sugar are getting along so well. They seem to really love her already. I do hope we can visit at some point. I think Sophie would love to see her too. Happy new year!

What a sweet face your foster girl has.  Thank you for taking the time to foster and I can only imagine how heart-wrenching it can be.  So glad you found her the perfect home.

I am so sorry about your wrist!  Your little foster was adorable and I can see why you miss her so much.  I want to thank you for fostering and finding Sugar the perfect furever home.
