Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

This is Gunnar. He is 10 weeks old today. Christmas present for our family -4 kids. We have been researching breeds and getting ready for a dog for years, but the kids were surprised.
He's been great, super smart, sits on command, goes to his crate on command, very few potty accidents.

So far he seems more lab like, which I prefer. He definitely sheds and makes me sneeze a little (I got over a nasty cat allergy as a kid through exposure so I'm not worried about a little sneezing from my buddy). He does have some longer beard hairs but his coat is pretty straight. Will be interesting to see how he turns out. Love his white toes and chest. Mom was a standard yellow lab and sire was a standard caramel poodle. Bred by a local farmer who also docked their tails st about half length. Not something I would have done but being a practical farmer he does all his dogs for cleanliness I guess. Parents are healthy and gene tested.

My in laws adopted his brother Tank at the same time. My office is attached to their basement so I've been taking him with me to work a few days a week to train him and his brother and let them wrestle. He's great with the kids and we have most of his puppy biting curbed except with the younger two kids who he treats more like litter mates. (6 and 3). We are working on the loud yelp method to teach him.

Gunnar was the somewhat shy and laid back little guy and Tank of course was the biggest bulldozer of the littler with huge paws.

Kids have loved him. Our oldest has Down Syndrome and this has been super good for him. He loves dogs. Poor Gunnar hasn't had a minute's peace with our son and 3 crazy girls loving on him!

This is my first dog. More photos in my profile.

Any guesses as to how doodled he will be?

I looked at your photos.  It is hard to tell, but I think Gunnar will look shaggy.

I think so too. Already getting shaggy if you look at the fine blonde topcoat he has.

New pic attached.

Congrats on Gunnar I am sure he will be great. The last three where's the poodle posts have been from Utah. Maybe some less then great breeders here. I am pretty sure I have seen two or Rosie's litter mates on KSL recently, I wonder if they were sold due to their lack of doodleness.

I am not expert but I think Gunnar will be nice and shaggy!
Pretty good shot of his facial furnishings. Man these guys grow so fast.

Yeah. I know lots of people are looking for the no shed poodle coat but these F1 puppies are half lab too and are bound to have some lab features.

Our "breeder" was a local farmer who has two great dogs, a standard poodle and a Labrador. This was their first litter, and he doesn't plan on doing more. They wanted a pup for their daughter and sold off the rest as I understand. He did get the dogs health and gene tested beforehand and they were raised in the home for the first 8 weeks, but by no means a professional breeder.

I think the whole litter was males and they all looked like labs.
12 weeks and not a curl or wave in sight. Looks like a long legged light build lab. Love it.

I think your sweet little Gunnar is going to be one of those coats of many stages.  By the time he is 1-1/2 yrs old, it will be interesting to see all his stages. Such a sweet face that boy has!

Could very well be. There are so many different looking doodles that it is hard to predict. Doesn't matter anyway, we love him regardless. I prefer the lab look, but would be nice if the shedding slowed down!

In looking at your current picture of Gunnar, I think you are going to get your wish that he more resembles a lab.  However,  don't think you are going to get your less shedding wish.  I have one that sheds tons.

Honestly we would be good with a shedding lab like dog or a more typical curly teddy bear. He is the coolest dog ever. If you look at the newest pic in my profile of him in the snow you can see he has a Donald Trump hairdo going on right now. Lol.

A few more pictures...

You can see his long beard hairs coming in too.

He is loved, for sure...
