Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We just currently picked up a 8 week old Labradoodle. I have had other poodle mixes, but this is the first Labradoodle mix. I know typically there are different types of coats they can have. We noticed that she currently has a think straight coat more like a lab would have. The mom was a first generation Labradoodle and the dad was a full blood black lab. I was wondering if she would develop a coat that is normally seen on Labradoodles or will she keep the coat of the lab? Either way I am happy with our fur baby, but just curious if she will develop a different coat.

There's no way to be certain, but based on appearance and on the fact that she is three-quarters Lab, chances are pretty high that she is going to stay very "Labby" looking.

I totally agree with Karen.

OK, makes sense Lindsay and Karen....but why would Teddy my Toy Goldendoodle have mostly Golden Retriever hair (long and wavy) than Poodle ?  He still has his puppy coat but he was more Poodle when I got him at 7 weeks than he is now at 6+ months.

I've seen more Standards and Minis who are more Poodle-like in their coats and they are less Poodle....think Teddy will change or is this something where the % of Retriever/Poodle doesn't necessarily dictate the coat ?

It's something where the % of Retriever/Poodle doesn't necessarily dictate the coat. It's genetics. :)

Here's some good info; there's an excellent graphic that explains some of this: http://www.animalfarmfoundation.org/pages/Multimedia-Infographics

She is a beautiful puppy, but since she is 3/4 lab, chances are that she will continue to look like a lab.
