Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So there's been a couple posts on Facebook of people being told by their normal pet stores where they buy Orijen that they should look to change because of the new sourcing and kitchen in Kentucky for Orijen.   I thought maybe this was misinformation but I'm seeing info that some of the ingredients did indeed change along with vitamin levels.  I stopped at our local store (Hollywood Feed) and they said the same thing about the quality level going down.   Both of my doodles are on Six Fish and they do very well with it.  I hate the thought of changing but I don't want to feed them something that isn't up to par quality wise and I certainly don't want to pay for quality that isn't there anymore.  Any info on this or thoughts?   I remember when they announced the new facility they assured the quality would not be compromised and all that, but I'm having trouble trusting it based on the limited info so far.  Picture of my girls for fun.  <3 them !!

Glad to hear that!

Our bags still look the same. Very small amount of tiny bits

I get my Orijen (currently on 6 fish) from Chewy, and they are still sending the food that comes from Canada...

I think Orijen did not start producing Six Fish and Regional Red until this month (October) in Kentucky. The Orijen I have purchased at a local pet store in Honolulu is still the Canadian product. (Bummed that Chewy does not ship to Hawaii!) I am interested to hear what others say about the new bags having "tiny bits".
I use Acana and so far the bags from Kentucky have been fine. I love the new easy open strip.
Okay I'll chime in. We've had several bags of the new Kentucky sourced kibble in several flavors from both Orijen and Acana and i don't recall any powder. I have noticed the kibble looks more oily and that might be why the powder is sticking to you kibble. I can say it's much more pungent in odor? Sadly i have not found one of the new packaged flavors that my girls like? It may just be a slight change in ingredients and boy my girls know it and don't like it! Since the Walla Walla doodle romp I've been adding Stella & Chewies to entice them to eat any of the flavors. The Canadian flavor they gobble up without hesitation?

Karen i have a quick question now they i am thinking about it, since I'm adding the Stella & Chewies should i reduce the amount of kibble I'm giving them?? They get about a pattie a day, sassy a little more??

Oh yes, you definitely need to reduce the amount of kibble they get. Check the calories in the patties you're using, and then subtract that amount from the amount of kibble you feed.

We switched today.  I'm on my last bag of Acana from Canada.  I'm moving to Orijen Original.  I tried a few samples of the Acana formulas from the Kentucky plant, but the dogs aren't interested.  I'm hoping that won't be the case with the Orijen from them as well.  Thank you for all the reassurance!

(I was pleasantly surprised to see that I can get the Orijen from a little local shop for almost the same price as the Acana Canadian used to be, and cheaper than on chewy, but dang the Canadian flavors, Tundra and Regional Red are $100 a bag!)

I've had Morgan on Orijen, Adult Dog for years. Unfortunately, he does not like the "Original" formula out of Kentucky. My local Dog Barkery suggested Rawz, which is comparable to Orijen, slightly higher in protein and less fruit. He seems to like it, whether it's because of flavor or a change, I don't know. Has anyone heard of it or have any information?

I had never heard of it, but I was just looking at the website and I'm very impressed.

Very active discussion! Thought I'd come back and see the updates now that we've had to switch.    Our food store ran out of the Canadian Six Fish without much warning a week or so ago.  I've been transitioning my girls to the Kentucky kitchen Six Fish.  I noticed that the food is a bit harder to chew, definitely eating louder than before.  They seem to not really like it, I mixed it the old version and they ate those pieces but left most of the new formula.  Both are having potty issues and barely eating.  I started adding some pumpkin on top of their food to entice them to eat and help with their upset tummies.  So far, we're not having great results, I'll give it another week and see where we are.  The only thing I've really noticed with the food itself is the color/shape/hardness, my bag wasn't oily or have powder or anything weird in it.

I just got notification from Chewy that they are now switching my Six Fish over to the Kentucky version. I hope my 2 do OK with it!
