I recently discovered something in my dog's ear that does not look natural. It's black (or a really dark brown) and it's just jutting out of the ear. Im not sure how long it was there. I researched a bit and I'm pretty sure it's ear hermatoma. Nothing is in the other ear. Noodle does shake his head, but I thought that was natural for dogs.
What should I do? Is surgery necessary? Is there a way to just clean the ear and let the bump go down over time?

I would get him to the VET as soon as possible.

HI My standard poodle had one a few years back. I think I took her to the vet and they drained it. It was years ago but I think she shook her head and the ear slammed into the wall or something. It wasn't a big deal...they drained it and wrapped it but I am not sure that was necessary bc it kept filling back up- I spoke with an ENT friend of mine and he gave  me some advice. But I'd call the vet- But it wasn't an emergency as I recall. I don't think you need to go TODAY- tomorrow will be fine (BUT I'm a SHrink not a vet!)

Good luck

Karen

Let a VET decide.

Please let us know what the vet says it is and the recommended treatment so we can all learn.

Does anybody know how fast the ear will swell? I won't have time to take Noodle to the vet until tomorow or Tuesday, so is there anything to help it?
