Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone, we are about to welcome an F1 mini English goldendoodle to our family.  We will be bringing her home on March 11th.  Although my husband and I both had dogs in the family growing up, this will be the first dog for our family, and definitely the first experience raising a puppy.  We are all excited, especially my 10 year old daughter, who loves dogs and has wanted one forever.

We are still working on a name for our girl.  My daughter has chosen a name that I find agreeable, but my husband does not like it!  This is worse than choosing names for my kids....lol!

I have been lurking at this site for a while and just recently had my membership request approved.  There is so much helpful information here, and I have been reaping the benefits already, before even starting to participate in the forums.  Many thanks to all who have answered the questions and posted useful information for us newbies.

Here is a photo of our girl at 5 weeks old, when we visited the breeder to choose our puppy.  My daughter instantly knew that this was The One.  She was the most chilled out of all the puppies we had to choose from.

Enjoy your very cute puppy.

Thank you!  I can't wait to bring her home :)

Such an exciting but stressful time!  I will always remember waiting the eight weeks before we could bring Myla home - I was on the computer all the time, looking at puppy pictures of different websites - that's where I discovered DK and then I was on this site constantly reading everything I could!  Unfortunately our breeder was not great at posting pictures but when she did it was late at night, so I was constantly getting up in the middle of the night to see if she sent an email!  What we used to do on this website is suggest names to future doodle parents - you just post some information about your family's hobbies, activities etc. and everyone gives suggestions - it was fun, although hasn't been done for a while.  I know we spent more time trying to figure out a name for Myla than we did for our kids and I did find it here!  Myla stands for My Little Angel and when we heard that, we knew it was a perfect name for our new puppy!  Have fun!  I'm sure your daughter is over the moon excited!

Yes, I have been a trifle obsessed, but at least I think my obsession has helped me gather up some useful information!  I love the name Myla and what I means; I also love that it is quite unique.  My daughter is definitely over the moon.  We surprised her with the news that we are getting a puppy when we arrived at the breeder's home to choose our puppy.  She was super excited.

Hi Lisa ~ your new addition has the sweetest face!  While you are waiting, be sure to check out the groups section on the main page and join as many as you like.  I always suggest new puppy owners check out Doggie Dan the online trainer (under the preferred vendors tab).  He is a fantastic dog trainer.  If you learn to be the pack leader right of the bat, you will be well ahead of most puppy owners.  Welcome to this sight - there is so much terrific info for new puppy owners. Looking forward to home-coming photos of your little puppy.

Thank you, Linda...I have already done some reading in the Puppy Madness group and joined that one.  I will definitely check out Doggie Dan.  We need all the help we can get!

Congratulations.  I can't wait to hear what you do name her.  I keep a list of possible doggie names on my computer simply because naming a dog is so much fun. Naming is the most fun and one of the hardest parts of getting a puppy.

Thank you, Nancy!  My daughter initially came up with names like Queen Elizabeth, Tsunami, and Moana, but now her #1 choice is Sunny, which is the name of a character, actually a dragon, in her favorite book series.  My husband doesn't like that name at all, so we are at an impasse.

Perhaps you could choose one of your daughter's choices as her 'formal' name (if your daughter is young enough she might fall for that!) but call her by a nickname - like Queen Elizabeth but call her Lizzie or Maj for Majesty.  Maybe your husband could come up with a nickname that links to the 'formal' name?  We had a dog named Lilliput (land in Guliver's Travels) but she was always called Lilly.

I love this idea!  Also love the name Lillput, with Lilly for short.

We would be honored if you chose Lilliput!  Let me know if you do.

Adorable, enjoy those puppy months, they go by so quick!
