Benji has been on Acana puppy since he was 9 weeks old but his stools are loose if I don't add 2 tbsp of sweet potato mix with his dry food. I came to realize he might just need less meat and some carbs to form normal stools. Since I live in Canada I try and buy foods that are made close to here. I was trying to search online and i've found Nutrience naturals and Horizon Legacy... But I don't really like how they both have lots of supplements added compared to Acana. Looking forward to finding the right food for my baby.

I know you had posted a few weeks ago that all of the pups from his litter were having issues (some had parasites) and that you were giving him fenbendazole. Did that not help?

I really don't think this is related to food, since you had also said that two other pups were the same litter were eating two different foods and having the same problem.

The fact that the sweet potato helps doesn't necessarily mean that he needs "less meat and more carbs to form normal stools". It probably means that he needs more fiber, since sweet potatoes are very high in fiber.

If you want to try a different food, you might try one of the Acana Singles formulas, as I suggested in the other discussion.

Yes he was on fenbendazole for 10 days, no improvement. I started switching him very slowly to Acana Singles Duck over a three week period and no improvement yet. The vet suggested I should add again sweet potato every meal or switch food and find something with more fiber. Now I'm not sure what to do... They was 3 pups in the same litter that were experiencing similar stools and they've been getting better over time after multiple dewormer (they've seen worms in stools) I look closely and Benji never had... I was thinking of keeping him on the same diet maybe for a little while but trying to think what other food I would be comfortable giving him. He's having perfect stool in the morning and as the day goes it gets little loose till before bed pudding stool. about 4 bowel movements a day.

Has your vet done a fecal? You can't always tell by looking at stool.

Also, make sure you aren't overfeeding him. If the stool is perfect in the morning but gets worse as the day goes on, that can happen from overfeeding. What kind of treats does he get?

I doubt that changing foods again is going to help. The Acana singles do have less meat and more carbs, and clearly, that wasn't the answer, lol.

Yes he had fecal analysis and everything came back normal. I'm feeding him half cup 3 meals a day that's what is suggested for the amount of Kcal and his weight. He's 12 pounds at 14 weeks. He eats fast though so I feed him in a puzzle bowl. He doesn't get any treat other than occasional antler when I need to distract him and I use his food kibble for training. He doesn't have other symptoms other than pudding stool here and there.

Are you giving him a good probiotic?

Yes It's been about a month, I give him every morning a probiotic called love bugs 16 strain 30 billion CFU, Prebiotic Larch Arabinogalactian, 850mg.

Well, I'm at a loss.

I don't know if a change of food would help or not, but for what it's worth I feed Petcurian GO! They have another product line called NOW! They come in grain free and healthy grain formulations and are a Canadian company with a good track record and on our recommended list.

Great thinking, BG! Petcurean's GO! line has 4 formulas made for dogs with sensitivities, those might be a good choice: http://www.petcurean.com/for-dogs/go/

Thank you so much!! :) There's a store near that sell it!
