Lots of people use a set of bells at paw height and teaching the dog to ring them whenever they go out.   Also look for the sign your dog gives you - some are pretty subtle, some  bark or scratch the door.  My dogs come get me and dance around and speak to me.

I would just take her out often enough, and eventually, she will wait until you're ready to take her out. That way, you will be training her to go when it's convenient for you, on your time, and not on hers. If she REALLY needs to go, she will figure out her own way of communicating her needs with you.

We hung potty bells and Nala uses them. We trained her to go in one spot in the yard and she goes right to it. (But she also uses them when she just wants to go out to play in the yard! One clever doodle. Lol. ) It was so easy to teach her to use the bells. When we took her out we rang them and said go potty. We kept her on a leash and brought her to the potty patch. It didn't take her long at all to get the idea. We have extra sets of bells at my parents house and she uses them when we take her there. Doodles r very smart!
Good luck!
Christine and Miss Nala :)

Leo is trained to bells.  He caught on very quick.  He did go through a ring the bell to play outside phase but it ended fast when no treat or potty party ;)
