Good morning everyone!
Chloe was licking her back paw this morning, and with a closer inspection it looks like the toenail bed is red and inflamed a little. She had this on her front paw last year and I was able to clean it and put an antibiotic ointment on it to rid her of it.
Has anyone else had this issue? When should I see the vet? She isn't limping, and it isn't oozing any pus, just red and slightly swollen.
I cleaned it and put the ointment on it this morning and will do so again later this afternoon.

I personally would have the vet look at it before it gets worse. If there is an infection, the topical antibiotics may not penetrate well enough to take care of it, and it may be something else altogether. She may not be limping, but the licking is a sure sign that it's causing her pain.
That is my concern too. My issue is, we are leaving out of town tomorrow with our dogs. I don't know if I'll be able to get in to see the vet before we leave! Like I said above, she had this before and I was able to rid her of it, but I don't want it to get worse. Thanks Karen, I think I'll call the vet and see if they can squeeze me in.
The Dr. will see her at 5pm today! :) Better safe than sorry.
I agree! Please update us after the vet visit. :)
Thank you! She is on antibiotics for 10 days and we have to try to keep the toe clean and dry as much as possible :)
Good morning! The vet appointment went well. It is an infection in the toenail bed, so Chloe is now on antibiotics for 10 days. The vet was very understanding about us heading to the camp for the weekend and said that it will be unfair to ask that Chloe be tied up the whole weekend, but to try to not allow her to run crazy and to make sure I wash her paw in the evening and make sure it is dried well. The weather today isn't the greatest, so I'm sure she will be resting when we get to camp at least for one day!
I'm glad you saw the vet and started treatment for Chloe. I hope you all enjoy your weekend!
