My doodle Ovie is 15 weeks old. All he does is bite on my husband and I. We always have a toy on hand to give it to him so he'll bite that. I find it hard to give him some loven because he will just bite. Please tell me this is definitely a puppy thing and he'll out grow it. We had him in puppy training for a couple weeks. It was a one on one session. He was pretty good at first, but started again. At what age do they outgrow this?

I'm new, and would love a reply.

My experience is limited to one puppy, who is now 23 weeks old, but yes, she has pretty much outgrown the biting and nipping and mostly chews on inanimate objects now.  When she was at her worst, we would first try to redirect her to chewing on a toy or something else (a bully stick, usually), and if that didn't work, we had her take a breather in her crate.

I recommend that you go check out the Puppy Madness Group.  On the Puppy Madness discussion page, in the introductions there is a link to a thread about puppies biting and mouthing.

Ok, thank you so much. I'll head on over now.

You are welcome!  There is a lot of good information in the Puppy Madness group.  :)

I can't find the site, any way you can direct me there?

Hopefully this link will work:

Sounds just like our Kate Spade doodle , she is 20 weeks and getting much better!! I kept researching and found a technique called " straight jacket" it was on a hunting dog site . You hold them close to you and if they still try to bite ghold their mouth shut for about 30 seconds , it works pretty good ! We pet her and scratch her belly so she knows we're not mad just changing her behavior
I have heard of that. Hmmm, maybe it's worth a try. I'm open to anything at this point. Lol. Thank you for your reply.

Teresa I feel your pain, literally. I have more scars on my right hand from Henry P Doodle then in all my 55 years of kids, gardening, and age spots. Henry is 22 weeks and other than the ocassional nip here and there in play he has stopped with the land shark business. He is teething badly, losing a tooth every day it seems and I have been anticipating his being mouthy because of this but it hasn't happened yet. He has the softest mouth when it comes to taking food or treats from my hand but during play? Oh man those baby teeth are so sharp!

You should see an improvement soon, within the next few weeks hopefully.

Well I feel better knowing their is a light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you, it really does help to know I don't have the only biting doodle.

I know what you mean by scars.  When Zoey was younger, I had an appointment with a doctor that assumed that I had a carpal tunnel surgery.  "Oh, no," I replied - "just a puppy."   !!!!!    :^)

I kept a leash on Cocoa during this phase (even in the house) so if she got overly stimulated and started nipping I could grab the leash, easily gain control and calm her down. If it kept happening I gave her a treat and put her in her crate so my kids and I could have a break. This phase does pass- Cocoa is now the sweetest dog in the world!
