We are puppy sitting for a friend and yeti cannot settle down enough to sleep. He has been crying and crying since 11pm (it's currently 1:30am). He is kennled in our room as usual and our friends dog is in the spare kennel down stairs. Ax hasn't made a peep but yeti is beside himself. I tried sleeping next to his kennel for awhile to assure him nothing crazy is going on while he's sleeping. That didn't work so we are currently laying down in the spare bedroom. He was pacing for awhile but is now laying on me crying away.
Has anyone delt with this? We are getting a new puppy in the near future and I don't want this to be the norm. Anyone have any tricks that worked for you in similar situations?

If they got along and played well all day, I might suggest that you kennel them in the same room.  He might just be worried about his new friend.

I'm thinking we will have to try this tonight :) yeti loves ax but ax is much older and doesn't have the time for yeti's constant need to play.

Were people shooting off fireworks in your area? I know that last night, there were bangs and booms going on in many parts of the country, including mine. Is it possible that's what was upsetting Yeti and not the puppy? Some dogs develop sensitivity to these kinds of sounds as they get older, so it's possible even if it didn't happen last year.

They were setting off fireworks but not too late and this isn't the first time it's happened before. Last year when we dog sat he did the same thing :( we probably will not be offering to dog sit for them again any time soon. I can't tell if Yeti is stressed or excited.

Would Yeti do better crated next to the other dog or could the other dog stay in your room?

I'm gonna try bringing the other crate up to our ro so they can both be crates in our room by each other. :) thank you for the advice!!

Let us know if putting them side by side works.

Well .... I slept through the whole night without hearing them cry! It was amazing to get a good night of sleep after hardly sleeping at all the night before! We put their crates side by side (but not touching) and covered them with a huge blanket. The only catch is, we gave them both a melatonin pill around 930 because we live very close to where our cities fireworks shoot off. It was a rough couple of hours for them (mostly our friends dog) because after our cities fireworks were over, our neighbors kept the party going until after 11! *sigh* Once the fireworks stopped for the night I didn't hear a peep! I'm not sure if it was the melatonin or the fact that they were near each other or maybe a combination of both but I'm so thankful it did! Hopefully it'll work again tonight (our last over night with our house guest who ate one of yeti's beds :()

Sounds like you have your original problem solved which is great.  As for the bed, what goes around, comes around and Yeti will probably destroy something at someone's house and you won't need to feel as badly about it.  ;-}
