Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi!

We have two puppies. 11 week old double doodle (little lab, golden, and poodle) Gitzet and a 10 week old med goldendoodle Gus. Just wondering about when to give them their first baths and what the best way to do it? In a tub? Outside in the grass with the hose? They don't really need to be groomed yet, but they run around out in the dirt, try to eat my hostas, dig up mulch, wrestle each other all day, and many other shenanigans :) ....getting a little stinky. Thanks!

I bring Jake in our stand alone shower with me.

It has a magnetic closure door and we have a shower wand in there so it works great for dog baths.

Be VERY careful not to get water in their ears!  Most dirt will fall off and brush off it you wait until they dry.  Hosing them off might be scary and cold for them.

I found that they are very inquisitive, so I did 2 things. I threw a couple of balls in the tub and left the bathroom door open while showering. Sure enough, her little head peaked in first, then the feet. I encouraged her in and when she couldn't make it over the tub, I helped her in I did nothing the first few times but let her play. Following a few times of this. I would fill the tub up with a few inches of water and throw her toys in and splash the water with my hands. Again miss nosey was right there wanting to get in and play. Finally, I introduced shampoo everywhere but the head, no problem. She is now 9 months and I don't even need a collar and shower suction leash ( used it for my coonhound that hated bath time years ago ). I don't think she lives it as much as a puppy, but she knows what we do when she's in there and bears with it nicely until we are done.
