Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
All,
Just sharing a letter I received from Chewy today, although I am certain others here have received something similar. In short, it says Chewy will no longer carry Fromm products, per Fromm instructions.
I’m sorry to let you know that Fromm Family Foods will no longer be available at Chewy and will only be available while supplies last. Fromm has decided to limit their distribution and will no longer service Chewy customers. |
I am very disappointed by Fromm's decision to end their retail partnership with us because it greatly impacts you, our customer. Their business decision to limit distribution was clearly not in the best interest of customers like you, who have come to rely on Chewy to feed your furry family. |
When I founded our company my mission was simple, deliver the highest quality products at the best prices and provide an unmatched customer experience. We have always put our customers and their pets at the center of everything we do. That’s why we have the most knowledgeable customer service representatives in the industry dedicated to providing best-in-class customer service and adding personal touches to online shopping with handwritten cards and hand-painted portraits of your pets. |
It’s particularly upsetting that despite all of my company’s efforts and personal relationships throughout the years, Fromm has decided that they will no longer service our customers. |
I urge all customers who are affected by this to personally contact Fromm directly to let them know you rely on the convenience of delivery and value the personalized service you receive from Chewy. Unfortunately, for many of you this decision will result in your inability to get these products in a convenient way. Please encourage Fromm not to put their corporate interests above the interests of their customers and their pets. |

I quit buying from Chewy as soon as I heard PetSmart bought them out. I bought Annabelle's food from them in the winter months when I am less likely to be out and about to pick up dog food. Having it delivered to my door when the roads are bad was great. I knew I was going to have to make other arrangements for this winter. I am lucky in that I have 3 pet stores within 10 miles of each other that sell Orijen. One of them doesn't even sell the crap food, only the best. But it doesn't do me much good when I don't want to drive to go get it. The prices at 2 of them are the same as Chewy was except for tax, which I am ok with. Maybe I will just have to plan ahead, when the roads are dry, go get at least a couple of months of food. I was surprised the founder of Chewy sent out the letter, I assumed he was no longer part of the company.
He's staying on as CEO.

Thanks for the link Karen. Same here, I would retire on a lot less than that...oh wait, I did.
:-}
Yes, thank you for the link! I would go on a world cruise and dream up another business.
If you don't open the bags and have room to store them, it makes good sense to purchase ahead.
So sad to hear this. I use Fromm but didn't buy through chewy but I know that was a really good option for a lot of doodlers! I bet Petsmart is not thrilled about this. Not good for them and their sales.
I am lucky to have a small pet food store locally that only sells the best foods ( most on our lists) They have the buy 12 get one free option too! the owner Rebecca is great and is very helpful in explaining the differences in the brands, protein , cost etc.
While I agree the local stores know their merchandise, and mine would put the bag in my car for me, the trick was getting it out, once I got home, and into the house. With a boxed bag from Chewy, I could just tip it into the house and gradually slide it to where I needed it. I called Chewy today and asked them for alternative grain-free, pork free, beef free food suggestions, since Pierre has allergies and does so well on Six Fishes from Orijen. He was previously on a duck prescription diet from the vet.
Chewy gave me these possible alternatives:
Now Fresh Grain Free Fish Formula
EVO Grain Free Herring and Salmon
American Journey Salmon and Sweet Potato
I do not want any ingredients sourced from China. Do you think any are comparable to Six Fishes by Orijen in terms of quality and relatively allergy-free, type of ingredients?
Last week I ordered three bags of Six Fishes and I was told Chewy had about 3,100 bags left, so they are not running out right away.
You do not want EVO. The company (Natura) has been bought out twice by multinational corporations and has numerous recalls ever since. American Journey is owned and made by Chewy, lol. I haven't researched it, but...
The NOW formula they recommended is way too low in protein for a dog who's been eating Orijen.
Look at Wellness CORE Ocean, that's going to be your best bet. Also consider one of the fish based formulas from Zignature (there are 3 of them).
Thank you, Karen! The reason Pierre went on Six Fishes, was a recommendation from you and it has worked out so well. I checked on Wellness Core Ocean and it is surprisingly, much less expensive than Six Fishes ( about $24 less for the 26 lb. bag. I asked a question about the calories per cup on Chewy. I know Six Fishes has more than 450 calories per cup, and I base the food amount according to calories. I am checking out Zignature next.
