Perfect! I think we will switch to wellness core puppy!

I think that's a good choice.

Haley, can you reply again? Your comment was cut off.

One last question (for now haha). Do you think its a bad idea to soak their kibble in a little warm water to get it a little softer for them? Our breeder mentioned that she was doing this last week. She said its easier for their growing baby teeth and its easier for them to digest. Have you heard of this for young puppies? Im happy to do it, i just am not sure if its similar to adding a topper. Will he expect his food to always be softened in warm water (similar to if we added something to it to entice him to eat)?

I wouldn't moisten the food. Breeders do that for 3-4 week old puppies when they first introduce solid food. By 8 weeks, they can eat the kibble just fine. It is not too hard for their teeth; first of all, they don't really chew their food anyway, and second, those razor blade puppy teeth can certainly handle some kibble, lol. Wetting the food also doesn;t make it easier to digest.

Awesome!! Thank you so much :)

Thank you, Karen and Allison!  It is sure a comfort to have this list, and I appreciate all the research you have done over the years!

Thanks for the kind words, Lauria.

Does anyone have any experience with Volhard Dog Nutrition dog food? I'm considering it but it seems high in grains. Any insight would be appreciated. TIA

I would stay far away from this product. It is a powdered mix to which you add your own meat and water, and it IS very heavy in grains. The website gives very little information on the nutritional profile. In addition, it looks like it is only sold through the Volhard website. Wendy Volhard is a dog breeder, trainer and dog behaviorist with absolutely no training or education in nutrition and there is no reason I can see to take her advice on feeding, lol. In fact, some of the info on the website is misleading to the point of bordering on fraud. For example, she "cured" hip dysplasia with her diet? Not possible, lol.

If you want to feed a dehydrated product to which you add your own meat & water, there are much better choices out there, both nutritionally and in terms of transparency of sourcing. Honest Kitchen's base mixes, for one.

Thanks Karen.  I'm going to continue my search.

Do look at Honest Kitchen.
