Hello doodle family,
Still dealing with dark skin issues and sometimes else now..
Sam has a bold spot on his back now.3 days ago we had appoiment with dermatologist for his skin/hair .Few weeks ago he lost his hair .about 1 “ diameter on his back leg.I was told by dermatologist he maybe had a bad reaction to rabies vaccine. He did biopsy in 3 places. One to see if he has a bad reaction to vaccine ,if he does,he can’t have another one.and 2 to see what exactly is going on with his dark skin and his hair not being to healthy.waiting for results now.
My question: anybody here have experience with something like this?
Is hair growing back ?
I am reading non stop and don’t know what to do.. not know for sure till results are in,but sound like we dealing with “ induce Acopia”

Maria, I think maybe you meant to say alopecia, not "induce Acopia".

I know it's hard, but until you get the results of the biopsies, there really isn't anything you can do. I would try to stop reading on the internet until you know what you might be dealing with. Hoping for something easily treatable.

Somehow, you have three of the same discussion going on here in the main forum. Nobody has replied to this one, so you can still delete it: http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/waiting-on-results-1

Here is the other one, which Stella replied to: http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/waiting-on-results

Perhaps we could ask her to copy and paste her comment here, so you could close that one. It's going to be very confusing to have three of the same discussion (or even two) going on at once.

Done :)

Here is some information about Alopecia:

As you can see, this disease runs in Miniature Poodles, and since Sam is a mini, it's possible that this is what he has.

Years ago my one doodle reacted to a vaccine. He lost hair in the area of the shot, about the size of a quarter and when it eventually grew back the hair was a different colour (darker), although over the years it did change back to his normal colour. This same dog also went on to develop seasonal alopecia - his hair falls out in the late fall and winter, leavig him with bald spots around his neck, shoulders, flanks and over the top of his butt. I had him tested for everything and this was the diagnosis we got, mainly because of the distinct season pattern to his hair loss and regrowth. The bald areas get really dry and scaly so in the winter I use a special shampoo and moisturizer to try to keep his skin nice. He also wears a sweater / coat whenever we are outside. It used to really bother me, now it is just one more strange thing about this dog (he has many issues!!). I hope guys get some answers for your boy soon.

Stella ~ what kind of shampoo are you using.  I am having issues with Beau and we are going to a derm specialist this next week.

Good morning,
Before our issues I used organic Oscar, when he started having problem I found Jax’s Daisy, supposedly is “miracle “ shampoo but didn’t help .
Waiting for resumes now .Wish you luck and please keep me posted .

We just got back from our visit to derm specialist in the Seattle area.  Beau was diagnosed as having Hyperplastic lymphohistiocytic mural and interface folliculitis with paragollicular pyogranuloas, sebaceous gland loss, rare purulent folliculitis and moderate to marked orthokeratotic hyperkeratosis.  It is a lot to take in and apparently quite rare and it is complex.  Treatment - to begin with oil bath  soaking for 15 minutes, then shampoo until most oil out of coat.  We need to do this once a week.  We are cutting Beau quite short on body and what is left of his gorgeous tail.  Saturday we give first oil bath session.  He started 25 mg of Atopica today, and the next 4 days, then will get 50 mg a day for 5 days, then 75 mg for the next 5 days, and then 100 mg (which is the max for his weight (52 lbs).  We hope he will respond to the drug.  He will have a blood test in 30 days to make sure his blood count is where it should be.  I am hoping and praying this boy can withstand all this.  I started giving him a probiotic Proviable DC

I'm sorry to hear this, Linda. The treatment is identical to that for Sebaceous Adenitis, I'm wondering if it's related to that. Sebaceous Adenitis is genetic in Poodles.

In fact, what you posted sounds like the printed biopsy results for sebaceous adenitis.

You may have seen Dane's posts on Facebook about Boomer; he was diagnosed with S.A., and they did the weekly oil baths and had him on Atopica, and he is now in remission, with great results. I wish the same for Beau.
