Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
DK Veterans...remember that old "marble" explanation about doodle genetics? Well I could never find the actual discussion so I decided to make a video--which is, hopefully, a lot easier to follow!
I posted this on our Facebook page and Ned, Clancy, and Charlie's Mama requested I add it here too.

The marbles were blue and yellow in the original example:
Here's Adina's old "jar of marbles analogy:
Thinking of JUST an F1b labradoodle for instance. Imagine that poodle genes are blue marbles and lab genes are yellow marbles.
A jar of F1 genes that was a pure 50/50 mix you'd have equal blue to yellow marbles.
And a poodle genes jar would contain only blue marbles.
Now to make an F1b for every 2-gene combo you'd randomly choose one marble from the F1 jar and one marble from the Poodle jar. When choosing from the poodle jar you'd ALWAYS get a poodle gene. But when blindly reaching into the F1 jar, sometimes you'd pick a blue sometimes a yellow.... So some F1b's could have more poodle genes, others more lab genes...and only looking at a WHOLE population average would F1b's look like 3/4 poodle.
But then mixing the F1 x F1b means there is still a possibility of some LABBY pups and some POODLEY pups.

Thanks! I couldn't find it ... only lots of references to it :-)
Anotherr one where you used the same analogy:

In this discussion, I used red and blue marbles:
Genetics are funny that way. You can have 90 red marbles and 10 blue marbles in a jar, and if you reached in blindfolded and pulled out two marbles at random, they could both be blue. That's the way genes work.

Teddy's mom was a Mini Goldendoodle and his father was a MINI poodle. He's a Toy Goldendoodle.
So.....since the mom was 75% poodle (Goldendoodle 50-50 mom; mini poodle 100% poodle dad), I guess Teddy is 87% poodle ?
Thank you so much for posting this. It is a simple, visual that totally explains how doodles have such a wide range of 'looks.'
Explained well and simple but you would get more attention if you used M&Ms :-) Just having fun!
