Nom Nom now human grade dog food

I haven’t a clue how to search this site for any previous discussion of this food made in No. California. I’m wondering if anyone has researched it. I tried their free two week Beef samples for my three dogs and they LOVED it! It comes sealed in packaging in portions created for each dogs weight and activity level. They have about 6 other choices available, which you can manage online. Delivery is once a week, 14 meals per dog. They also give you free snack and food samples, plus a full free week to keep in the freezer should their delivery be off a day or two. They have a veterinarian with expertise in nutrition overseeing formulas. 

So, your thoughts?

Well, I am encouraged by the fact that the vet who formulated these foods is actually a veterinary nutrition specialist. And a fresh cooked diet is the best kind of food for dogs. 
But I can't get enough information from the website to recommend this food or not recommend it.

I don;t like the fact that it is only available from the website and not in any stores or other online suppliers. That makes me wonder if it is sold through an MLM or pyramid scheme, which I have major problems with. 

I would also be concerned about delays in shipments, and you cannot buy the food anywhere else. Trust me, once a dog got used to this diet, you would have a major problem getting him to eat something else while you waited for delivery, lol. 

I also wonder about sourcing. Human-grade foods can and do come from China, which still makes me nervous. 

Heaven forbid that I would disagree with a veterinary nutrition specialist, but this food is awfully high in fat, so for dogs who are prone to pancreatitis, I would be very careful with feeding this food.

Lastly, I HATE that you cannot get a price for the food without giving them your email address and other information. What is the big secret? Why the lack of transparency? 

I imagine that after the free trial, it would be very expensive to feed this. Do you have pricing info?

The pricing for my three dogs is 69.00 week plus $5 tax. Comes in ice. Weight of my dogs, having normal activity level is 44, 16, and 7 lbs. They ask current weight and desired weight, and then portion out the food for each dog accordingly. I usually feed the two small dogs Primal frozen raw, and the big dog Orijen kibble and Zignature canned. I’m having a hard time comparing pricing to see just how much more expensive NomNom is. My brain just isn’t up to it, but I’m pretty sure NomNom is more expensive. It’s very very convenient to feed this, and OMG! Did the dogs do a happy dance eating it!

Yes, I imagine any dog would be thrilled to be fed fresh food with a high fat content.

Can you point out the foods with the high fat content? I don’t know how to interpret these things, unfortunately. I took photos of the packets for the three dogs and attached them here. That may help in analyzing the nutritional content. Allie, age 9, weighs 44#,  Butchie, age 9, weighs 16#, Lucy, age 14, weighs 6.6#... if that helps at all.

It's all right on the website. Scroll down the various formulas and look at the guaranteed analysis for each formula posted right beside each one. Beef, 44% fat. Turkey 40% fat. Chicken, 45% fat. Pork, a whopping 53% fat.

There are only three macronutrients: protein, carbohydrate and fat. When fat is making up 40 to 53% of the total calories in a diet, that's an extremely high fat diet. 

What each dog weighs has nothing to do with it. These are all very high fat foods.

Thank you! How much fat is a correct amount? Why would a vet recommend that much fat? I’m going to ask them.

Bonnie, it's all on thw website. The vet has videos and explanations. They are selling it, so they are going to give you reasons for why it is what it is. Whether you want to accept the information there or not is up to you. 

I personally would not feed a food with a fat content that high. And I would not choose a food solely because my dogs liked it. After all, if we did that with our kids, they would all be living on candy and chips, lol.

So what is a proper percentage of fat for a dogs diet? Thanks for sticking with me on this.

There is no one answer to that question. It depends on many factors, including age, activity level, body condition, health, etc. An overweight dog, or one with digestive issues, should have a diet with a fat percentage under 15%. For a healthy, active, lean dog, a diet with a fat percentage of 30% would probably be fine. Just like with people. A 25 year old male bodybuilder would require diet with a higher fat percentage than an overweight sedentary 65 year old woman, lol. But certainly, nobody should be eating a diet where more than one third of the calories come from fat. And that applies to dogs as well as people.

I have never seen any dog food with a fat content as high as this one.
