Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I'm looking to upgrade my clippers to something a little more robust, but i'm not sure where to start. I have been grooming Bert myself since puppyhood using the Wahl Arco cordless and it's ~fine~ but it just takes sooooo looooong. I think it's a bit small, and i end up having to go over the same spot a ton of times and there are still a lot of stragglers left behind.
I'm willing to spend a couple hundred bucks for something that speeds up the process and comes out looking tidy. Bert is a pretty good sport but after about an hour we both get pretty sick of it! Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Andis AGC2 Super Clipper - I LOVE these clippers. Best investment I've made.
Do they get really hot? I saw that on a couple of reviews but I know all of them will get warm with use. Did you get any combs or do you just use the 10 blade that comes with it?
They will get warm with pro-longed use, but I use a coolant spray to help with that. I did not get any comb attachments with these as I already had some...didn't need anymore. I did receive two extra blades (#7F and an extra 10) plus the coolant spray for free through the supplier I purchased them from. I am in the process of finishing a grooming course and am opening up my own dog grooming salon, and these clippers are by my favourite of the ones I have tried. Good quality and a decent price.
Melissa, do you like the pro clip or ultra edge? I've been looking at getting some too and I had another recommendation for Andis ultra. I have researched enough to know the differences yet between the two.
Valery, I use the Ultraedge blades and have had no issues with them. As with any blade, you have to be consistent on cleaning them and lubricating them before, during and after use to keep them sharp :)
Do you mind me asking what supplier you used? Thanks
Thanks for the suggestion Melissa! Taking this under consideration, as well as some reviews i saw on dog grooming forums, i ended up ordering the ACG2 UltraEdge. Wish me luck!!
No problem at all! Anymore questions don't hesitate to ask! You won't regret your purchase.
So how do you like the Ultraedge clippers? I'm getting ready to upgrade and on Amazon this one has the highest and best reviews. I had a pair of Oster's I loved, they're probably as old I am, but I lost a small spring and it won't hold the blade anymore. Called Oster and they no longer carry parts for something this old and all the local places for repair can't help or won't return my call??
Any other recommendations will be greatly appreciated. I haven't groomed her in about 2-3 years now, but it should be like riding a bike?? lol
I absolutely love my UltraEdge clippers! I have a different set of clippers from Conair, and they do not compare to the Ultra Edge...even though they are professional and were not expensive. The UltraEdge clippers are 2-speeds, and doesn't overheat quickly like some clippers.
Heather D - how are you liking them?
I have been very happy with them! MUCH better than what i was using before. The cord is a little heavy and clumsy but i saw some suggestions for how to keep the cord out of your way, i just need to give it a try.
I still use my cordless clippers as well, for the "precision work" so i'm glad i have both.
