Hi, Mini goldendoodle owners, how big is your doodle and what age is he/she at? Just trying to see if I really have a mini or if she is going to turn out being a standard. Lol! Look forward to hearing your responses.

Correct, Wendy, and I think the F1b goldendoodles are the very best.  I had one and he was a beautiful dog and with a wonderful coat.  It was long like the goldendoodle, but he did not shed or mat.  I highly recommend crossing a goldendoodle back with a standard poodle (I like the phantom poodles).

I can totally relate to your "mini" goldendoodle question.  I have a sweet 8 1/2  month old supposedly mini goldendoodle who I expected to be somewhere between 25-30 lbs.  Maggie weighed in last week at the vet's office at 46.8 lbs !  I'm hoping she won't get much larger.

When you say "supposedly" mini goldendoodle, Pam, did the breeder supply bios of the parents ?  Did the breeder have a good reputation ?

It's not impossible for a dog to be outside the range on the big side...even a female....but that is definitely much larger since most Minis are 25-35 pounds from what I have read.  

Also, most experienced breeders know the ranges of their females litters.  Some female moms are smaller than others and within their litters the breeder can usually tell by 5-6 weeks which ones might be bigger/smaller than the other siblings or the norm.

I was fortunate in that my breeder knew her Toy Goldendoodle moms very well and knew that one of her moms tended to have smaller pups than the other.  Then among the 3 boys that I had a choice of she helped me choose the one that she thought would be the smallest.  She nailed Teddy perfectly as he is on the smaller size (probably smallest 10-20%) of all her Toys.

But whatever size, they are great nonetheless !!

I totally understand, I was told Blakeleigh was a "petite" doodle. Her mom is a 25lbs doodle and her dad was a 8lbs poodle. I now how an almost 9 month old doodle that is 60-65lbs. She doesn't have the long legs that a standard doodle has but she has the weight. lol! I love her no matter what, just wasn't expecting her to get that big.

WHAAT ?  I am not an expert on Goldendoodle genetics let alone DNA genetics, but that looks like a 1-in-a-trillion chance.

What you describe as Blakeleigh's parents matches what Teddy has:  a Mini Goldendoodle Mom + Mini or Toy Poodle Dad.  If you have a Standard Doodle size-wise, I don't see how that lineage could be Blakeleigh's parents.  Either information given was wrong or someone is lying or grossly misinformed.

When did you get Blakeleigh and how big was she then ? 

When I got Teddy at 7+ weeks, he was 3.5 pounds.  He's 13 pounds today.

I think I was misinformed on her parents. I only saw pics of the parents, I never saw them when I went to pick the dog up or anything. I was told Blakeleighs mom was a mini 25lbs goldendoodle and that the dad was a 8lbs toy poodle. I got Blakeleigh when she was 8 weeks old and she weighed a little more than 4lbs. She stayed small for a little while then out of no where she started getting bigger. lol! I was told she would get about 30lbs and she has doubled that. About 20 of the lbs comes from her head. She has the biggest head I have ever seen on a doodle!

Well, that IS strange....maybe someone else can tell us what Mini and Standard Doodles weigh when 7-8 weeks old and 1st brought home.  But Teddy weighed 3.5 pounds a few days after I got him when I took him in for his 1st vet visit.  Most dogs that weigh 60+ pounds fully-grown probably weigh 7-10 pounds at 7-8 weeks, from what I have gleemed talking to dog owners the last year or so.

Erica, it is strange that a dog that was only slightly heavier than Teddy would now be almost 5x as much weight-wise.  Maybe Blakeleigh really IS a unique exception.  Or more likely, she was the runt of the litter but then shot up after a few months like you said.

I'm very confused, more so after you said she weighed just 4 pounds when you got her.  Yeah, 4 pounds is Toy or Mini size at that age I believe, not Standard.  Maybe some Standard owners here can chime in.

Blakeleigh was not the runt of her litter. She was the biggest of 3. The runt was tiny and the breeder didn’t sale it until it got a little older and knew she would be ok.

Well, I'm stumped, Erica.  Did the breeder tell you how Blakeleigh's siblings turned out ?  My breeder has many years of experience and I told her I not only wanted a Toy but would prefer one on the smaller size, too.  It's not an exact science, I understand, but she was able to pick 1 of the 3 boys who turned out to be even below her range of 15-20 pounds for Toy Doodles.

No update on Teddy's 2 brothers or 2 sisters, yet.  She told me she had a fully-grown healthy Toy Doodle once that was 6 pounds (I suspect female) and I have friends with Minis who are Teddy's size (12-15 pounds).

Girl at my dog park is getting a Toy this weekend and has been told it should max out at about 15 pounds.  I'll keep everyone posted.

I have asked about the siblings. She said one is about 45lbs and the runt of the litter only got about 30. So they did stay smaller than Blakeleigh but one did get bigger than the 30lbs range.
