Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Wow, I’m new to the web-site and hoping to get some support.  I posted a question about the normal size of a doodle and got not one response.  2 hours later someone posted about the normal size of a mini and got several responses. Is there something I’m missing in terms of being a welcomed member?

Can I ask again,, does anyone have a doodle over 70 pounds? Do they exist? I am looking for bigger the better and am finding a lot in the 50-60 pound range. Do I stop my search or are there larger standards out there, I just haven’t found the right Breeder.

Poodles look larger than they weigh because of their long legs. Many doodles are tall but not as heavy. Is it height or weight you are looking for?

Abbey, sorry you didn't get quick responses but rest assured it had nothing to do with your status and probably just not enough people being on-site at the time you posted.  Unless active, some threads can go many hours without responses.

I have seen some Standard Doodles 75-80 pounds but that is the exception.  Need a big Golden Retriever and a big Poodle to create one !

I have two doodles and they are virtually the exact same height, right at 26" at the shoulders.  My F1b is far more poodle framed and weighs around 70 lbs, has a very slender body area and just appears far more sleek.  My other guy is an F1 and is an absolute moose, he weights around 110 pounds and has a barrel chest and is just far more beefy.  They are both fed the same amount so it isn't overeating.  I knew from the very beginning that Mac was going to be massive and several of his brothers are the same size as he is.  We keep them groomed pretty regularly so their coats are not very long which makes it quite easy to tell them apart by body size, when we let their coats grow long they look the same size.

Wow....that's the biggest Goldendoodle I have ever read about or seen.

It’s very random how big they grow.  His parents were smaller and he topped both of them by 20+ pounds.

You haven't found the right breeder and most breeders are working toward smaller dogs as doodles are usually house dogs and smaller works best for most people.  However, my first doodle was 105 pounds.  You can see his photos on my page so take a look.  He died in 2010 of liver disease.  I have had many doodles since, but none as big as he was.  Labradoodles are usually larger than the Goldendoodles just because of the dogs involved (labs are usually larger than golden retreivers).  Stay away from miniature and toy poodle mixes if you want larger.  They are out there.
