Alternative to Cowboy Magic?

Our 10-week-year-old puppy HATES Cowboy Magic. He runs and cries the moment he smells it. Can anyone recommend an alternative product that helps with detangling/maintenance and also smells good (to humans)? Thank you!

We have used “ The Stuff” since Enzo was a puppy.  Smells great and makes their coat so soft and manageable.  Cheapest on Amazon!

Not at all. It is a more “ clean “ smelling scent. I tried CM once, and our dog sneezed the whole time. I had to rewash her.  Just be careful, should you try “ The Stuff”....it can make a floor or tub very slippery. Make sure you wipe up any overspray.  And less is more! Don’t need to saturate the coat. Just lightly mist and rub into coat.

Are you using pump spray our gel/cream? If pump spray that could be the issue.

Hi Cheryl, we are using the gel. I apply only a small amount (dime size) and he freaks out. I love the smell

of CM but it is very strong.

I really like Cowboy Magic - the vasoline-looking form for specific mats.  I use Horse Mane 'N Tail spray for pre-brushing.  With any spray be very careful as they have silicon and make surfaces very slippery.  If I am going to spray my guy all over, I either put a towel or blanket under him or do it outside.  If you spray, you have to use enough to penetrate the coat so move the hair around as you spray.

Hi Nancy, for our pup, I think the issue is the odor, regardless of spray vs gel. Even when I open the bottle, he runs away from ththe odor. I'm hoping to find an alternative that works and smells as nice as CM but not bother our pup so much.

None of my boys likes being brushed, but our boy with the high maintenance coat disappears when I even look at the brushes. For him it’s not even the smell! I think it’s that he has mats that need to be coaxed out and a thick coat that brushes and combs don’t easily slide through.
