Ear Mites or Ear Wax

from what I’ve googled they both sound the same or maybe I’m just confused?

Mites are parasites and wax is - wax.  Hope this helps.

Sorry I guess I didn’t explain it throughly I mean how can you identify which one is which in the ear

You need to take the dog to the vet. Mites are microscopic.

But mites would cause extreme itching. Wax would not. Excessive wax can cause an ear infection, which would also cause extreme itching. 

Poodles and Poodle mixes require weekly ear cleaning to keep the ears free of wax & debris that contribute to ear infections.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist answering what you literally posted. :-}  Often with an ear infection there is black gunk in the ear as well as a bad odor.  The dog might shake their head.  You do not want an ear infection to go untreated as it can lead to deafness.
