We have our pups on Acana Regionals Wild Atlantic and they eat well. A little nervous about the lawsuit, but not enough to switch. My question is this - if I want to change to a different flavor within that same Acana Regionals brand, what is the protocol for transitioning?

Thanks,

Jon

Also, I have another question.

On the feeding, it says for my 66 lb doodle, she should have 2 1/3 to 3 cups a day. It says each cup is 396 cal per 8oz cup. That means her calorie intake appears to be 923-1188 calories a day.

But on the feeding suggestions I see online, it says dogs need approximately 20-30 calories per lb = 1320-1980 calories a day.

Those ranges don't appear to match up. Where am I not connecting the logic?

Luna is a 40 lb. dog and she has been getting about 1.5 cups daily, which is right in line with their feeding guidelines for a "less active" dog.

The feeding suggestions you found from other sources may be assuming a very active dog and would give you higher calorie numbers.

The smaller the dog, the more calories per lb. of body weight they require. Dogs over 50 lbs typically require 15-20 calories per lb of bodyweight; giant breeds may need as few as 10. Toy breeds are the ones that may require 30 calories per lb. of bodyweight. (Puppies of course need more, sometimes as much as double)

Your 66 lb dog should be getting 990 to 1320 calories per day. So the guidelines on the package are correct.

Didn't think of that :) Makes sense too.

It always surprises me how little the bigger dogs need to eat (especially of the grain-free foods).

When switching within the same line in the same brand, you really don't need to transition at all, assuming that your dogs have no known food sensitivities. They are designed to be rotated and usually have the same nutritional profiles. So you shouldn;t have any problem just feeding a different formula in the Regionals line.

Luna has been rotating between three of the Acana regionals formulas for years and it's never caused her digestive issues.

We've been rotating between the fish one, ranch and grasslands with no transition time, just switch whenever we run out.
