Any suggestions for really irresistible training treats that are at least semi-healthy? Maggie has turned down all the dog treats I've tried at class. At home she prefers the cloud star rogue treats - the air dried one ingredient meat treats. She turns her nose up at a lot of the fruitables and the tricky trainers. At class she turns her nose up at everything except nuked hot dog pieces and string cheese. I tried to buy the "healthy" hot dogs, though that might be an oxymoron. And the string cheese bites got a little slimy in the training bag.
Thanks!

Ludo loves Pure Bites freeze dried liver!
We tried the freeze dried liver. It's a yes at home and a no at class. Miss picky pants said no thank you.
But thank you for the suggestion! There's got to be something besides a hot dog! They have so much sodium.
Pure Bites has other flavors. Chicken, Turkey, Cheese, and I think more.
I'll have to order. I used to be able to find pure bites at Petco and they don't seem to have them anymore. And when I asked the people at the fancy dog food store about lung they acted like I'd grown a second head. I've spent a small fortune on treats that she doesn't really love.
I'm surprised. Merrick's sold lamb lung treats forever, and that's a fairly common brand.
I'm not sure if they sell anything by Merrick - this is the same store that doesn't sell Honest Kitchen because of the celery recall way back when. They might be a little bit too hoity toity
There's a Pet Supplies Plus in Lenexa.
There's also this place right in Shawnee that sells Merrick: https://www.petstopkc.com/pet-foods
And I'm pretty sure there are several places in Overland Park that would have it.
Pet Stop is right down the street from my house, but that's the place that sells puppies.
But we can definitely check out Pet Supplies Plus. I've never been in that store.
Oh no, they sell puppies??? Definitely stay away from them!
I mainly shop at Pet Supplies Plus. They will match Chewy and Amazon's prices, and if you sign up for their frequent buyer program, you get good coupons all the time.
Yes! They sell puppies and it's terrible. I can't even go in there. And it's literally within walking distance of my house. Somehow that store seems to fly under the radar. I wish someone would do something about it, but this is not a very forward thinking state when it comes to being responsible for animals.
No, it's not. And we are both right next to the puppy mill capital of the USA, Missouri.
I always ask everyone I know not to set foot in a pet store that sells puppies. Not to give them a dollar of your hard earned money for anything. Good for you for not patronizing them even though they are conveniently located for you.
I think for the purpose of class where there are lots of distractions and she's learning new things, a super high value treat like hot dog or string cheese should be fine. I used these during classes. I personally wouldn't fret over it, but there's nothing wrong with looking for other alternatives like you're doing. Ludo also will bend over backward to get boiled petite carrots. I chop them into pieces and he LOOOOVES them.
