Jack was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma 7 weeks ago.  At that time he had a mass rupture on his spleen.  There were no lesions on his liver or kidneys and his chest looked clear on the scan they did prior to surgery.  Since his surgery he has had 4 seizures and is now on keppra.  The microcells have likely gone to his brain.  My goal is to keep him comfortable and give him a good QOL for as long as possible.  I know this disease will get him in the end, he is 11.5 yo.  Currently I have him on Turkey Tail mushroom extract and Yuunan Baiyou in addition to the keppra.  He is starting oral chemo this week.  It should arrive by Wednesday.  We are feeding him grain-free Fromm, topped with boiled chicken, broccoli, brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes or squash.    Sometimes I add some Primal Raw.  I am thinking of ordering some of the Honest Kitchen base mix for some variety.  I am interested in anyone's experience with this type of cancer.

He is doing well.

I’m so sorry. You are doing a wonderful job. Loving her well.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I lost my boy Chase to hemangiosarcoma two weeks ago.  By the time I knew he was sick it was already affecting his heart, and he went downhill very quickly - less than a week from diagnosis to having to have him put to sleep. It is a horrible disease. Love you boy as much as you can. Hugs.

I'm sorry, Suzanne.
Donna lost Quincy to hemangiosarcoma recently, and I know we have lost several other DK doodles to this disease.
Hugs to you and Jack.

I am so sorry. It sounds like you are doing everything you can to keep Jack comfortable for as long as he has. I am sure you are treasuring each day.

I am so sorry...I lost my 6 year old beloved labradoodle to lymphoma, so I understand how devastated you are....you are doing everything possible to keep him comfortable.

Suzanne I am so sorry to hear that your precious Jack is sick and I truly know how you feel. I lost my doodle boy to this same cancer about a month ago. From the time he first showed symptoms until he died was 3 days shy of 2 months. He had his spleen removed but there were spots on his liver found during surgery. He recovered well from the surgery and was back to normal, so much so that you would never know he was sick. We started Quincy on oral chemo( 2 weeks after his surgery) but I can't say that it did anything. For the most part he was well except for an occasional day during the last two weeks when he would be really tired and lethargic, most likely because he had bled somewhere. The bleeding would stop and he would feel well again.  I tried to make his time as enjoyable as possible, we went for walks but shorter and less strenuous than normal. I took him swimming in his favorite pond, fed him better than his humans, gave him a lifetime of belly rubs and kisses. We spent lots of time on the backyard swing, a thing that we both loved to do. Other than the fact that he became tired more easily he didn't show any sign of pain or discomfort. His last day was spent walking on the beach, wading in the ocean and trying his best to start a game of tug with our beach blanket. We cut the day short when he seemed tired and by the time we arrived home he had to be carried from the car to the house. We set him up with a mattress on the floor and his Mom by his side but this time he didn't recover, he died in my arms a few hours later. Quincy was 9 1/2. It is devastating to lose such a precious friend and it truly leaves a huge void in your life.  I wish I could offer you some hope but your time is precious, make the most of it and enjoy the time you have now because that's all there is. Hugs to you and Jack.

We love you and Quincy dearly. My heart is broken for you

Hoping Jack is comfortable and can hang on for all the love to be expressed.

My heart is breaking for you.  I am so sorry.

I'm so sorry you lost Quincy to this horrible disease.  I have been on this site for many years (mostly as a lurker).  I always remember you and Quincy.  Your photos are so beautiful.  Quincy was lucky to have such an awesome life with you.

These posts just always make my heart ache!  As Donna says, time is precious just make the most of it!  My thoughts will be with you.  Hugs to you both!

I am so sorry about Jack! I hope you get a lot more time with him!

I am sorry to say that we lost Jack last Wednesday morning.  During the night he had 2 seizures which were both really bad.  I realized that the cancer had metastasized to his brain.  I couldn't see him suffer any longer when we knew the long term prognosis.  As many of you said, this is a horrible disease.  I am glad to see there is research going on to help treat and prolong life.  Although I am Doodle-less right now I will always have him in my heart.  We still have 3 dogs, 2 Catalan Sheepdogs and a Schnauzer, but I miss my big leaner.  RIP Jack 12/11/06 - 8/15/18
