Polly came home today with a HUGE cone of shame on her neck.  Poor baby is running into everything and every time she tries to get to her favorite spots it holds her back.  I know I have heard people mention putting onsies on their dogs before.  So first of all, her incision is about five inches long, is it okay to put a onsie over that?  Second of all, she is a forty five pound dog, anyone have any idea what size I would need for her?  Thanks again for any help you can offer.

This is what I bought for Ava after her surgery. It worked reasonably well, but only when I was present. She could still get around it if I wasn't watching. They also make inflatable cones that aren't quite so huge, do you think one of those might work? I have a couple comfy cones too.

I actually had to go back to the traditional cone, in the biggest one I could find, because she was pretty sneaky. I just tried to supervise her as much as possible so she didn't have to wear it often. It was rough. Her incision was huge. They basically split her from top to bottom. Poor baby. It's no fun when they're hurting and you can't explain it to them.

Glad to hear she is back home and recovering!

Is it the big hard plastic kind of cone? Maybe one of soft cones would be helpful but my experience with those is it's be present when using them because they are more flexible. I put the hard plastic one on if I was gone or at night. Then used the soft one when I was with the dog.

No help on cones - Luna didn't need one after her spay since she left things alone...

To give you an idea of size though my 38 lb. daughter takes a size 5 in clothes if you're buying human ;)  I don't think you'd be able to find a onesie in that size though you could probably get away with buying a pair of size 6 footless pyjamas like these (cotton ones not fleece) and cut out a tail hole.  They usually come in short-sleeved too but might be hard to find this time of year.  Probably cheaper than anything made for pets, you can probably find a pair for $10.
