Riley is scheduled for her spay surgery a few weeks from now at 7 months old and I am looking at e collar type options in case I want to order something off Amazon.
The vet's office sells e collars (unsure what type forgot to ask) nd those pyjama type things ("medical pet shirt"). Riley is clumsy and tries to eat everything so I know she will fuss over stitches. I saw they sell inflatable collars on amazon are those any good?
Luna never touched her incision site at all but I foresee Riley being a menace...

Well, Riley is officially feeling quite well, she has passed beyond hyper into full-on crazytown. I don't know how this whole keeping her calm thing can go on for another week lol. Anytime she is taken outside for a pee she just bounces straight up like a kangaroo all over the place...
I think that's the hardest part of this, keeping them quiet after the first day or so. The boys heal faster, thank God, since the surgery is so much less invasive. I'm not looking forward to it.
Poor girl is spending a lot of time in her crate if I will be out of the room more than a couple minutes because of the baby. Better safe than pop a stitch though!
I hope the time goes quickly until she is fully healed. And that should probably be right around the time we swap places, lol.
Poor Jasper has no idea what's coming:p unfortunately you know all too well how annoying it will be lol.
I feel sorry for him already. It's funny, I never neutered a dog before. Jack's was done by the shelter before I got him. And all of my previous dogs were females. The girls come home looking the same on the outside as they did before; the boys have something missing, lol. I strongly, strongly believe in spaying and neutering every pet dog, but I have to admit I'm sad about that cute little fuzzy pouch going bye-bye. :)
Trying to keep Riley occupied "Here have all the toys!" While she is tethered to the dining table. This skunk bears a strong resemblance to her too :p
Giving her a ball was a mistake though she was playing reverse fetch, throwing it for me so I would have to get it for her, hoping we will play real fetch... I've never had a dog smart enough to make ME play fetch before...
JD played fetch that way when he got older and it was too hard for him to go after the ball. He'd lie there and toss the ball at me with a good shake of his head. And he could catch it while lying down if I aimed right. :)
We just had our sweet Stella spayed two weeks ago. The e collar was horrible. She hated it and so did we. I wish I would have seen this about the inflatable ones and ordered one. She was miserable. She didn't fit anywhere. The only plus was she wasn't able to reach her stitches.
We aren't using the inflatable one at all so far, just the medical pet shirt... which is awesome unless you forget to unbutton it before a pee break and then it has to go in the wash:p Riley hasn't persistently been going after her stitches though so the cone may become necessary if she does try to eat them.
IDK that Stella would have done good in the medical pet shirt. But she may have. Hopefully Riley recovers quick and easy like Stella did. Those 10 days of stitches and keeping her calm seemed like a lifetime!! lol
I need to call Riley's vet for clarification because on the written discharge instructions it just says "on-leash walks only for 7 days"... but everything I've read online says 10-14 days recovery period. Even if the vet says fine after 7 days we'll wait at least 10 days and slowly re-introduce play time just to be cautious though. So far her incision looks good but it's not 100% at 6 days - a bunch of nicely healed new pink skin but a couple spots are still a bit scabby.
