Yeti has an ear infection a few weeks back and the vet gave us some drops to put in it. I feel like it still hasn’t completely healed up, but Yeti doesn’t seem to be bothered by it anymore. Tonight I noticed yeti would not leave phins ears alone so I took a look inside and you guessed it! Looks like phins ear is getting infected as well.

I was wondering if the drops prescribed by the doctor is different than a wash you can buy. Also how does one go about cleaning ears with a wash? Not sure how these guys got ear infections, but l want to know how to stop them before they become a huge problem in the future.

Smart girl!

Thanks for the great tips!! Do you recommend a vet doing the hair plucking rather than our groomer? I didnt realize that was something I could ask them to do!!! And yes, their ears are pretty smelly right now. Yeti was pawing at his ears like crazy (but the weird thing was it was only first thing in the morning when getting out of his kennel) so i looked and was so surprised and mad at myself for not realizing something was wrong earlier. Probably a really dumb question but do you think this was contagious or a weird coincidence?

It's not contagious.

wow! what a weird coincidence then haha

While I don't know about ear infections and fortunately my Doodles don't have hairy ears, my practice since 2006 has been 40% white vinegar/60% water. I put some in the ear, massage, then clean out with cotton balls etc. Any debris comes right out. Then I lightly rub "Thornit" powder around the ear opening and that's it, not inside the ear.

Good luck.
