cut on leg

Shooter seems to have a cut on his rear leg I'm assuming our other dog bit him when they were playing (she goes after his back legs) although some of it seems to be healing he keeps licking it. I'm wondering if maybe I should put a cone on him or put a sock over it so I can heal properly and of course applying topical cream specifically for the wound
