Maggie got cut too short today and the groomer blamed it on her collar. She said when she cut the mats out around her collar it looked stupid and she had to take her body shorter. She's not naked, but she's definitely shorter than I wanted.
And the groomer's last day was today. That's the second groomer I've lost in a year. And I almost had this one broken in! I guess we're on the search again. It really stinks. The one that's being recommended by facebook will have me driving 50 miles for grooming. I mean, I am considering doing the 17 hour round trip monthly for our original groomer... but 50 miles seems excessive for anyone else.

I hope we like it and that it helps. Shipping is going to take a minute, so I'll update after we try it out.
I think you'll appreciate this. This morning I woke up to Maggie snuggled up next to me in bed, patting (smacking) my face for more pets. I was the happiest person in the world!
My doodles used to always matt around the neck. I bought them both rolled leather collars. Absolutely no matting since.
They also have held up very good.
That's good to know! Thank you. I hope it works for Maggie too. Grooming is my worst subject.
Just wanted to update this after a few months. I do think the rolled leather collar has helped with the matting around Maggie's neck. Her hair is a little shorter these days, so that probably helps too, but I'm happy with the collar. I also haven't noticed any dye transfer. She hasn't been swimming, but she's been rained on plenty this year. My one annoyance is that the ring that keeps the end tucked in got lost at the groomer, so she has this floppy little tail, and I'm probably more annoyed with that than is warranted, but it is what it is.
But for Willow I found a Biothane collar that is sold on Etsy that I'm sort of in love with. It has all stainless steel hardware, and my name and number are engraved on the part that tucks the excess in. And it's also purple. I was not sold on the idea of a waterproof collar for a long time, but I was wrong. I thought it would be too plasticky - but it's more leather like than plastic like. And those nylon dog collars do take a long time to dry - as I found out after a couple impromptu baths in the middle of the night.
I don't think doodles need clothes, but my girls are getting quite the collar collection over here!
That looks like a really nice collar! I am paranoid so I only get quick release ones...harder to find leather and biothane with the quick release buckle.
Good to know though in case we get tired of the nylon at some point.
Purple is Riley's colour too!
I'm thinking of making her a few collar bandanas now that she is done growing :p
I have seen some with the quick release buckle on Etsy, but I don't think they're adjustable. It might work when you know how big her neck is going to be. Sometimes I fall down a browsing rabbit hole on Etsy. This seller also does a martingale and she can add bling. I would have bling'd our collar out, but Willow has so much hair it would be wasted on her.
My vet is always so excited when he sees their purple collars. "Is it for K-State?" Sure. For K-State (I really just like purple, but whatever.)
I was just thinking. This seller also does biothane leashes. I bet I could get the bling put on the leash. The fancy part will actually be visible! I am out of control.
Lol uh oh. They will soon have a leash collection too!
They have a million leashes already, but when we go out I always go for my teal leather leash. It's perfectly broken in and so comfortable to hold. Still, I have an addiction to buying things for the girls.
J, Poochie Mama water collars have quick release. Here is a link. I think they have ID tags also. https://poochiemamahawaii.com/products/the-best-dog-collar
Thanks for this. I hadn't thought to look on Etsy. Zoey does mat some around her neck, but I also wanted to have the name and number on it for extra safety. When Zeke has stopped growing, maybe I'll get them both a new one!
I am a stickler for always having identification on the collar, but I also hate jingly tags. Collardirect on Etsy has a rolled leather collar that has an "identification bead" on it. Just room for 2 lines. I took a photo, you can't see the engraving, I turned it the other way so I didn't have to blur the numbers out for the whole internet. I was really pleased how it turned out. They sell on amazon too, but I don't think they have the option for the identification. My collar came from... Poland or Ukraine, or somewhere in Europe. it had fancy foreign postage.
thanks!
