Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Anyone have any symptoms when taking this medication? My dog took it for only 3 days and is starting to shiver, pee in house a lot (she’s potty trained), and has diarrhea. She’s still a happy pup and is eating, drinking water & playing. I called vet and he said to take her off the medication but I still wanna know if anyone else had dealt with these symptoms!

Jack's internal medicine specialist said a biologic dose was 1 mg for every ten lbs of body weight. Below that, you don't as much concern about liver damage. 1 mg per lb sounds crazy to me. When JD was having the kind of allergy flare where he is so miserable he is trying to chew his own paw off and rub all the fur off his face, he didn't get anything like that amount.
And a swollen eye is nowhere near a full-blown allergy flare. It may not even be related to allergies.

One kilogram = 2.2 lbs. I had to look that up. :)

Pediatrics does everything in kilos. I'm super proficient at multiplying and dividing by 2.2.

And I found this:

To reduce the symptoms of allergies, a dose of 0.25 mg per pound is usually appropriate. Your vet may increase or reduce the dosage based on your dog’s response and whether or not the symptoms have become manageable. It is possible your vet will prescribe up to 1 mg to be given throughout the day. Your vet will strive to find the lowest dose possible while still maintaining your dog’s health.

To give you an idea of prednisone dosage, my labradoodle weighed 75 lbs and took one 5 mg tablet every other day. Granted, that was a maintenance dosage, but 5 mg is a LOT of prednisone for an 11 lb dog!!! The biologic dose would be 1.1 mg per day.
The largest dose my big guy was ever given was 20 mg /day, and that was only for a few days after the diagnosis of a serious immune disease. Never that much for allergies.
Find another vet.

I couldn’t take her to my normal vet because it was on 4th of July & they were closed so I go to an emergency vet!

Emergency vets are the worst. The bottom of the barrel. Now this all makes sense to me.

Thank you for everyone’s help!! :)
Yah it was the only option I had tho :( I called my vet the next day tho to ask all questions!
