Riley LOVES her kibble but she is really not super motivated by any treats we've tried.  We really haven't tried that many (just pure bites chicken and Zuke's minis, right now using a different Fromm kibble as treats) but we need a couple different types of high value treats for some specific training we'd like to do.

Riley has some stranger anxiety (barks incessantly at visitors, even small children) so we are trying to make it very enticing for her to calm down and relax when we've already told her visitors are welcome.  We have started having visitors give her treats which works sometimes but often it doesn't, so I'm wondering if a higher value treat might help.

She is also anxious at grooming time lately so I want to have a special type of treat that she only gets when she is being groomed.

I thought the Zuke's would be good because they are super smelly and soft but she really doesn't like them any more than just a piece of kibble.  Maybe they are too small for her to get a good taste?  I don't know.

Any suggestions?  Maybe I should just use plain cooked chicken breast or something for the grooming since it's pretty frequent and I can keep some in the fridge?  Visitors I can usually predict when they will be coming too so not always, so it would probably be better to have something stored.

I’ve tried Real Meat Bits they work really well for my Cubby.

Not sure those are available here :(

If she doesn’t have any dietary restrictions, most dogs love string cheese. Cut it up into little pieces. Our dogs get freeze dried lamb lung as treats, they love them. Apparently most dogs do. You could try either of those.

We always have string cheese on hand for our daughter that would probably work well for our guests! Riley definitely has no dietary restrictions she is basically a garbage can dog.  Not good though since she will eat any and all non food objects too...

The freeze dried lamb lung is a good suggestion. I use freeze dried liver and I have yet to find a dog who doesn't love it. Stewart's brand is widely distrobuted in the U.S., not sure if they are in Canada, but Chewy, Amazon, Petco and Petsmart all have them.

The main thing for fussier dogs is that the treat be 100% animal protein. That's what most dogs love best.

Cut up hotdogs are also usually irresistable, but I personally can't stand the greasiness, even with the low fat kind. Both of the trainers in the classes Jasper took used them. I can't picture asking guests to handle them, lol.

Maybe hot dogs are a good solution for grooming.  We always have some around in the freezer, easy to microwave.

Lamb lung will be the backup plan since I'm not having much luck finding them online here.  Petsmart has some but the store is quite far and they are very expensive.

Going to try some hot dogs next time baby takes a nap, will report back ;)

I'm sure you can find the freeze dried liver.

Oh probably, isn't liver pure bites freeze dried liver?

It's dehydrated. There's a difference. The freeze-dried liver seems to retain more flavor and aroma. It also doesn't seem as dry to me, weird as that may seem. Although maybe it makes sense, because I don't think freeze drying pulls the moisture out of the meat like dehydrating does. ???

These are what we use from Chewy.com.

In my experience, freeze dried liver isn’t nearly as popular (we have Pure Bites, but they don’t love it like the lamb lung).

Yeah Luna liked the pure bites but wasn't super crazy about them.
