Tell us what commercial foods have worked for you and which have caused problems; information, questions, warnings and advice on dog food companies, ingredients, brands, and switching foods.

Joy, I have noticed the same "sour" odor only on Bruce's face as well, and like you, can still smell it even after a good scrub and blow dry. I was feeding Bruce Canidae for about a few months, and recently switched food to a wellness simple solutions diet. but the smell persists. not sure what actually may be causing it, but would love to figure it out, because it is slightly offensive. (doesn't stop me from smothering him with his daily kisses on the face, but it would be nice not to have to hold my breath!) keep me posted if you find any useful solutions!
Unbelievable, isn't it? Also check out the book, "Food Pets Die For: Shocking Facts about Pet Food," by Ann Martin. You'll never feed commercial food again after you discover what's really in it.
Jacquie: I hope that what you're horrified by is this guy's SALES tactics. This "site" is a big long ADVERTISEMENT by an unscrupulous man who is trying to sell a product. While there is no question that the commercial dog food companies have committed endless sins against us and our beloved dogs, (just ask Lynne) this particular article is sensationalist goobledegook designed to frighten uneducated people into buying his "program." There are much better sources out there for the info on the Pet Food Companies horrendous practices. My respect for you keeps me from deleting it, but really, people shouldn't pay attention to this particular article. :-)
It is however a good place to start your research. Don't take his word for it. Check out his claims and you'll find most are true. Don't buy his books, either. Go looking for independent, scientific and veterinary sources. He is a sensationalist, but he is not far from the mark. Sadly...
As always, I bow to your extensive knowledge of the subject, and my apologies to Jacquie for being reactive about this article. It IS important for people to know about this! It's just a shame these people are trying to make their own buck off of this tragedy.
Yes, I agree, but there is enough facts out there to be found without buying his books. I would never take one man, one person's or even one vet's opinion on anything. I research everything, NOW.
I realized this...and thank you for pointing that out...absolutely no offense taken...( my fellow "AA"..lol) I had NO IDEA that euthanized animals are an ingredient in some commercial dog foods!...I was so shocked and horrified that I immediately posted the link......
Are you saying he's unscrupulous AND happens to sell a product? Or that he's unscrupulous BECAUSE he's trying to sell a product? (P.S. I only glanced at his site...didn't read much on it so I can't comment on content--but that STYLE is a popular and effective way to market things and doesn't, on its own, make the product bad or the seller unscrupulous).
Perhaps the word "unscrupulous" was the wrong choice of words. I did not want people to look at this ad as being a good reference site. I do have a problem with this sensationalist type of advertising and "entrepreneurs" who try to capitalize on peoples' fears & tragedies by pretending that they know some big secret that can only be revealed by buying their products...always some "6 easy steps to" gimmick. It's like those small print ads in the back of romance magazines- "Send us $10.00 and an SASE, and we'll send you the DIET SECRET OF THE STARS!" If you know something you think others should know, write a book and sell it in a straight-forward way, as Marion Nestle has done. In fact, this particular "program" is only a rehashing of previously published material by Ann Martin & others, much of which has already been reported in the press.
