Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I'm curious to see what people think of this. I am currently feeding Orijen, a high-protein (42% crude protein), grain-free diet. I am thinking of going to something with less protein, and I want to stick with a high quality food. Our dog didn't do well on Wellness, so I'm weighing my other options. California Natural is one of them. Any thoughts?

I didn't post this in the food group, because I thought more people would see it in the general forum. Thanks!

Does anyone here have one of those fountains that constantly runs the water and keeps it cool? I've heard that it encourages dogs to drink more. Maybe I should try that and see if it makes a difference.
My doodle likes, and is fed regularly, California Natural,--Lamb and Rice she prefers. Also we have used and still do for variety, the brand with the stars and moons on it, beef--I think it's "hunden flocken".
Both seem to have very good ingredients. We also give our dog simple cooked meat or cheese and carrots (loves them!). Also snap peas fresh from the garden in summer; we share them, half for me half for her. :-)
The Hund n Flocken is from Solid Gold....another excellent brand.
oooh that's the food I'm using as treats for my doggies :-) way too pricey to feed three big dogs... but cheap as a treat :-)
We feed our 3 mth old doodle California Natural Chicken and rice puppy food. It seems like a good one. We have been feeding him that ever since we switched from the brand the breeders were giving him and there went any food issues.
Also, our neighbors who have a three year old Goldendoodle recommened us California Natural. Their doodle is extremely sensitive to food and after trying various brands, California Natural seem to help her allergies. Pretty much we are using their experience :)
I feed equal amounts of Evo and Wellness Puppy and add a little ground meat and chicken and have found that my dogs seem to be thriving well on this combination. I also add a large spoon of the Wellness no grain canned chicken for flavor. My new vet who recently graduated from Texas A&M said that feeding a combo of wet and dry is very good for a dog. The dry kibble alone absorbs a lot of fluids from the pet...so he needs to drink more water. Believe me, I have researched dog foods to ensure proper nutrition and a product that I hopefully can trust for hours to say the least. I have used this site as a valuable resource and read the opinions of the Food Group, etc. I also have to pick from products I can purchase where I live...Orijen....is not available here or I might have tried it. I mix my kibble to ensure proper nutrition and that my girls get all the vitamins they need for a healthy long life. This is a personal choice and vets also make personal choices about food value and selection for dogs based on their opinion and knowledge (which can vary just like the dog food choices we have available). In the end, it is ultimately the best educated choice of the owner of a pet that determines what, when, and where they eat. Since, there is no study that proves the value of one kibble over another we can only determine its value based on nutritional labels and ingredients in the product. I opt to keep grains, soy, preservatives, colors, etc. out of the food I select for my dogs. I hope that I made the right choices on their behalf.
I like it for the following: You can get it with only 4 ingredients. This is really good for testing 4 allergies bcs you limit the variables. CN does not have preservatives which is both bad & good. You need to smell it & be sure it hasn't gone moldy. I have very good luck with Nutra Nuggets lamb & rice same as kirkland or Diamond. I have been getting consistently perfect pooops lately. Been feeding it for years & have very healthy dogs & its the cheapest food. I don' t know that concentrated urine = high protein. I think its good to experiment & document. Would love to have your documentation. HOp you post it & would appreciate you email me when you do. caringpro@yahoo.com. I keep track of these things. Check out my flea post above. PUppy love from Joy & furry folk
I fed our previous dog California Natural, as he had many allergies. Now that we have a goldendoodle I am feeding him Innova, which is made by the same company. It's a good food but our dog isn't crazy about the taste so I may have to switch.
Hi Gerri,
I am also feeding Innova to my goldendoodle. Which innova product are you using?
