Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Thanks everyone for all your comments. I'm closing this discussion now. I've found Rudy a wonderful home very close to mine. My new doodle will come soon.

I have a doodle on order (2nd dog) - then I've had the opportunity to care for a standard poodle puppy (4 Months).
He's just adorable. Is there a reason I should just not keep him - he needs a home - Yes, he is prissy looking but his disposition is fabulous. I don't know what to do. I don't enter into the care of dogs lightly.

I think you should keep the poodle who is a known quantity to you now. He is beautiful and has a good disposition so what more could you ask for. I cared for a standard poodle for about a year and an half and he was a great dog. I now have a medium labradoodle. He too is a great dog and I can lift him which is an advantage but otherwise a great dog is a great dog!
Follow your heart and your instincts....both are whispering to you right now :).
Is there any reason you can't keep the Doodle, Poodle and a new Doodle? LOL

(You can tell we share our home with a Mastiff, Doodle and S. Poodle)!
Yes - then I have to put my DH up for adoption. My kids would be mad.
Yah, that's what I'm leading towards. There's a neighbor here that may take him - only 3 houses away. They are going to let me know within the week. Then there's a friend of mine who has a friend who has a daughter who's 26-- that type of thing. I had so many questions I think someone could have adopted a child much easier. I almost flipped at the thought of me not personally knowing exactly where he'd be going. That's not going to happen. So I guess if my neighbor takes him he's there's but otherwise he's mine. I haven't fallen in love with the "on-hold" dog yet so I'll never know what I'm missing. She's only 3 wks old now so will be very easy to adopt out.
OOOOOOO just look at the 2 them together, I bet they are attached to each other as much as you and the poodle are attached....I would keep him..Look as this picture and into both dogs eyes and ask that question... I think you will get your answer.
First, He's a GORGEOUS poodle pup and sounds like his personality matches so anyone who gets him will be very lucky. If you keep him you'll be lucky. It just comes down to what you are looking for or hoping for in that second dog. Good luck with your choice, I don't think you can ago wrong either way...let us know!
I don't think he's "prissy" looking at all...what do you think Fergie would look like if you shaved his face, LOL? When that puppy's facial hair grows in, he is going to look like a beautiful doodle!! I agree that you have to follow your heart. You have a puppy here who you already know gets along with Fergie, has a good temperament, and guess what?...a GUARANTEED non-shedder! To me, the only difference in appearance between a standard poodle and a doodle who has the curlier, non-shed coat is the haircut. I know that some people just have an image issue...but I don't think a person with a heart big enough to foster a homeless dog would be too concerned with that. I will tell you a secret...I used to be embarrassed to tell people I had a doodle. I almost didn't go to see him at the shelter because I didn't think I was a "designer dog" person. Go check my spot on Adina's ratings board NOW.
Sit with it for awhile and visualize saying goodbye to him the day his new adoptive family comes to take him home. If you can't reconcile yourself with that image, you'll have your answer.
If that poodle's nose wasn't shaved, he'd look so much like Halas, especially the eyes. Even the coat looks a lot like Halas' did at that age. If you're loving the poodle, I'll bet you end up keeping him. Personality means so much, so if he fits in well with your family, he could be a keeper. If you think he looks prissy, you could always avoid the poodle haircut and keep him a little longer.
They look so content together...they seem to belong with each other.
Husbands come and go, but a good dog...LOL
Thanks for the comment. I'm laughing very hard right now.
