Hi everybody,
I was wondering if any of you feed you doodle Legacy or Merrick puppy food? I would like to switch our food to one of theses brands but not sure which one. We now feed Innova puppy but she doesn't really like it although she will eat it. What's everybody's opinion on these two foods?
TIA
Angie, if you do a "search" in "Forums", you will get tons of info about Merrick from our "Commercial Foods" section...way too much to duplicate here, lol! There has been quite a bit of discussion on Merrick here, if you will take the time to read through "Commercial Foods, the Good, the Bad, & the Ugly", you will find tons of eye-opening info on various brands of kibble.
Keep in mind that many of us have picky eaters who don't really seem to like ANY kibble, so it can be frustrating and expensive to start trying new brands, only to find that your pup doesn't like any of them. On the other hand, it's always good to have an alternate food in mind in case you HAVE to switch for any reason...recall, unavailability, health issue, formula change, etc. We have a lot of discussions here about that, too. If you read through the titles of all the discussions from the main page of the Food group, you'll find a lot of tips other than changing food (adding "people" food, etc.) Good luck.
Hi,Angie:
I have just started switching my 8 month old puppy, Riley, to Turduckun All Stages Merrick for sensitive stomachs. My girl just hasn't been too happy since we took her off the combo of wet food (we found it had a bad preservative) and Iams but she is REALLY responding well to the Merrick...we have only just begun transisition and we are going VERY slow. I wrote to Merrick and found that they do not have a rendering plant and they also explained about their products. I also asked about how to transition and they gave me very good information. I have two other friends who have switched their dogs to Merrick products for all stages and then rotated among those. The great thing is the "gravy"...this moistens the food, isn't bad for them and keeps them interested in the food. I have tried California Natural, Organix, TOTW and Halo...Riley could tolerate the Organix without bad stools, but she wouldn't continue eating it. The others gave her bad stools...I returned the TOW because it had cat food in it and I didn't want to take any chances with getting it again. Again, we have only just begun the transistion (this is day 4) so I am not certain it will work, but so far, so good.
I would think the Merrick would be a great choice - my pup likes the Puppy Plate, and she is a finicky eater, tho is getting better the older she gets. Adding water, it makes it's own gravy. A finicky pup may take to this better, too. It is a good choice as far as ratings - earns 5* from the places I found when I was searching out dry foods a few months ago. It is pricey tho. Good luck - I know first hand how frustrating it can be to find the right food for your puppy.
