I saw a programme on T.V the other day and it basically said that since many high end dog foods are owned by the same companies that sell the cheapest, there's not much difference between them in terms of content. I'm surprised. I've been feeding my Labradoodle what I thought was one of the best products. Am I mis-guided and wasting my money?
Maybe, maybe not. Some foods are made by a big company that makes dog food for several others--remember the big pet food recall in the USA and Canada a while back? It's cuz many were made by the same plant even though the individual brands were owned by other companies. I would say if you can verify that your ingredients are not from overseas AND the ingredients are decent ones as listed on the food bag...and your Finn does well on it...you are good to go. I use Canidae for the doodles and for our senior b.c. Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul (as if they needed a name that long) in Senior....
Thanks for your comments. I can stop supplementing with New York Strips and scrambled eggs then? Seriously Adina, I don't remember the food recall recently as I've only had Finn 5 months - plus I only landed a couple of years ago...
And thanks Rachel - are we 'friends' now!?
I can't remember exactly how long ago the food recall took place, but over 5 months ago I guess. Basically a BUNCH of foods (mostly canned foods, but some dry I think?) were recalled because it so happened that they all came from one Canadian plant that bought certain ingredients from China and it was tainted with Melamine and some other stuff possibly. Some dogs died. It freaked everyone out. However, I don't know as many details as others as my dogs' foods were not on the list and so I didn't worry once I knew that.
So, talking of plastics...Finn has, or I should say had this plastic 'wish-bone'. I think it's made by Nylabone. And he just devoured it. I'm worrying about that now!
He devoured a WHOLE one? Or some tiny piece of what he's worked on for weeks? I'd be a little worried if the whole thing went down at once. Is it edible?
Well, it was the knobble of one, over a period of days, until we took it away. Had this image of Tom and Gerry, and the wish bone going down Finn's neck in a wish bone shape; Gulp!
I would like members of Labradoodle Kisses to know that I did not swear in my comments about Finn eating the Nylabone wishbone. The word I used to descibe which part he ate was 'the knobbly end' of the bone. That is knobbly (rhymmes with bobbly, wobbly, etc) The word knobbly means knarled, as in a knarled and knobbly piece of wood, for example. Knobbly, in this context, is definitely not related to the word knob...
Ha - now you've been censored too! We are agreed then, a big, round door handle is a knob. As far as the 'really long ones' you describe, I'll think we'll leave it there...
Oh no, I've found the response - it was on the next page. I see my mother is now 'in on the act'. I thought the topic of knobs might 'tickle her fancy', if I can use that phrase...
