My Lucy is VERY food motivated. She will do anything for a treat. My trainer suggested I try to get her interested in a tug toy. I've tried everything!! She loves to tug with the puppy but not with me! I can on a rare occassion get her to tug for 10 seconds or so.. but that's it. I came across this article by Susan Garrett... and as nutty as it sounds I'm going to try it.

What's your dog motivated by?? If they started out food motivated and switched to toy.. how'd you do it???

Hi LeAnn, I read the article by Susan Garrett and find it very interesting. At agility, I have noticed that many trainers use their leashes as a tug toy because toys are not allowed in the ring. I special ordered one of those leashes and a tug toy of the same fleece. I should be receiving them this week. Parris is VERY food motivated but it would be great to have her attention after a run. I look forward to hearing how her method works. Great info.

Kim, can you post the link where you got the "tug leash" from??? I'd love to see it...
Murphy is just a maniac I think. He is motivated by cheese wiz (only for weave poles...otherwise he just can't do anything he is so excited) or cesar dog food on targets or treats in general.

I watched some of the others at practice revving their dogs up using tug toys. I did it with awful results.
The instructor came over after our disasterous run and suggested/informed me that "Murphy probably doesn't NEED revving up." I think he tires out and can focus on day 2.
ROFL please please take video next time!! I need to see Murphy in actionnnnnn

lol, i LOVE THIS.

Hi LeAnn,
The website for the leash is www.kollarsbykathryn.com The type I bought was the collar leash combo. I received it today and it is really nice.
